Today I decided to pull out the chrony and do a little testing. I was curious about a couple of my rifles to start with. One rifle I bought just a while ago and had no idea of how it was performing but it's 24 years old and still shooting at spec. I was suprised because it cocks so easy and the recoil is so light. I figured it had far less power than it does. My other rifle is the one I use the most around my brother's farm and it too was still shooting like new.
My 5G Magnum was the next up and I didn't know what to expect. When it was fairly new it was shooting at 4.6-4.7ftlbs. A few hundred shots later it had dropped to 4.2ftlbs. Well today was a happy day because over a 15 shot string it averaged 4.8ftlbs useing 8.2gr JSB 100s. I use that pellet when testing that pistol because I always seem to remember what it did the last time.
To say the least I'm glad to see the rebound rather than another drop in power. From what I have learned this pistol is now a little hotter than the old Scorpion and about on par with the .177 P1/HW45. I haven't found an actual test of the .177 P1 that hits the advertised 5.2 ftlbs. They always seem to produce low to mid 4ftlbs levels. The .22 HW45s all seem to pump out in the mid to high 5ftlbs range. Maybe the .22 5G Mag will do the same. I'm a little tapped out... would someone else please buy a .22 5G Mag and test it!!
