with the advertisements on these pages crashing their browser? Seems there is a red/pink colored one (what it is I can't say- I don't pay attention to them anyway except when..) that conistently crashes my mozilla or causes the page to render with the tables and cells all f****d up. Not sure if there is a way to kick this up the chain of command or what, but maybe the coder who created that advert needs to take a look at his code again.
also. It seems steady the last couple of days. Mozilla would crash for no reason. I didn't know it was the advertising. I have an operating system called Opera (free download) that doesn't seem to have this problem. Good system but I am still using Mozilla the most.
I just checked into the ad/pop-up situation and since this forum is free, it is a necessity of the breed. There is really nothing that I can do to prevent Network 54 from selling ad space to whomever they will. This is how they can offer these free Forums to us... It's also their gentle way of suggesting that you buy upgraded NW54 accounts.
I might suggest that in order to sidestep these frustrating annoyances, that you either purchase software with internal pop-up blockers, perhaps use a service that includes such software or try downloading some of the free downloads from around the net. (A search will locate a 1/2 dozen Free Pop-up Blockers)
I suggest that those of you that are having trouble here,should think about loading some sort of program for you will also run into these same situations on other Forums. Personally, I use SBC Global as my server. Their stuff and and their Yahoo partnership block it all for me! There are a bunch of other servers with similar protections in their contracts.

If in the future the problem gets out of hand and to avoid impositions, intrusions, and crashes, of peoples systems that are out of my control, I'll just shut the Forum down! With my system I don't see this stuff, so please keep me informed, OK?
It's your house. I would suggest spybot search and destroy W/the active X utility, Adaware, Pest Patrol, Zone Alarm, Window Washer etc... The best way to stop them is to remove all the bots and tags that they recognize you by. If this seems like too much work just remember that hackers will use the very same bots, and trojans to gains access to your system, and they won't trouble you with any pop ups ! ;^) I haven't seen a pop up for close to a year now, and I don't get spam either
Yea, I used Spybot, adaware, and Zonealarm back when I had Dial-up. One may not have got em all but the combo always kept my screen clean!
I only want this Forum to provide good reading, maybe a little help between posters, and a sharing of information for all, most of all for it to be done free of obligations! If I ever thought that this place was going to do any harm, I'd down it in a heartbeat, because we all have too much invested in this equipment!
Most everybody uses their computer for personal business, family stuff and some even do real business with their machienes. I'd NEVER want to see something get passed-on and ruin anything for anyone, like that from here!
I'm always glad to hear if somthng like those pop-ups are happening. Maybe, ( just like now) we can pass the needed information on to those who need it, and hopefully help solve the dilemmia!
complaining. I just answered a question. I also said I wasn't experiencing the problem with Opera OS. I do have all these blockers and the problem continues on Mozilla OS. I'm living with it and will continue to do so. I like your forum and come here several times per day. All my rifles are Dianas. Keep up the good work.
I'm not getting pop ups. Mozilla just crashes when I'm on your site. Not always but half the time. Doesn't happen on any other site, ever. I'm also up to snuff on most Internet problems and fixes and I think Mozilla OS has a problem in your site environment (whatever the reason). Again, I'm not complaining, just stating facts. I get way to much good out of here to leave. Opera OS does seem to be more stable.
No problem, I understand that ads support these forums too. I just thought maybe someone @ network54 might see my post and investigate that rogue browser-crashing ad and maybe produce a better one, rather than keep reproducing more like it, which could make the site unuseable. For the record, there are a lot of ads that cause no trouble at all, and so far just a single bad one that some flash animator somewhere at one of the ad-houses ought to take a second look at. In a roundabout way I was trying to make the forum better by giving some feedback on useability. That was my real intent, not just to pointlessly complain
I know you were just trying to locate the problem and I'm really sorry that it gave you problems on your system! I hope NW-54 starts proofing their clients ad's better!
I got that one Red/Pink ad at the header just once too! (The first time I clicked onto your origonal post) It shifted my entire screen to the left! I scrolled the bottom bar back to center it, then when I clicked back to try and see who the Ad was from, it just wasn't there anymore!
I think it was some dating service, if I remember right? I remember thinking "Jeesh, here too?", then clicked ahead.' Gosh I am sorry the folks at NW 54 do not check the effects of their advertizers on peoples browsers! I have a feeling that there might have just been something omitted when the ad was written, and it wacked certain systems readers (?).
Truthfully I don't claim to know computers at all, I'm just a Shooter, who's found the computer to be an indespensable tool to contact friends and chew the rag about my favorite thing!
i have just read your response to the popup/advert thread, yes , it is your forum, and it has the worst popup/advert record of ANY site i have been on, YES it is free, but at a price, its so bad that i myself rarely use the forum any more,i mentioned this same subject a while ago, and the response was the same from the media, its more hassle than its worth, yes you do own and run the site, and i for one, with many like myself do appreciate it BUT, at the end of the day you allow it? why ? i know the answer ????????
The reason I "allow" the Forum to be run on the Pop-Up Foremat is purelly a financial one. Believe me I wish it were different!
See like you, I have a love of airgunning, however 13 years ago I got hurt in an industrial accident at work. Misfortune granted me one more bad accident in '99. The combined and compounding injuries are degenerative. My feet are left twisted, painfull and numb, and both my knees, arthritic and failing. the consistsnt pain often prevents any normal airgun shooting activitys, and wnen I can, I shoot over a bench on the "Good Days".
I have undergone 4 Surgerys so far (looking forward to the need for a probable artifical knee very soon, as my right is wiped out..) and in truth, ALL the time this Forum has run, I have been off work, either preparing for or recovering from failed surgerys, all the time just scratching to pay bills and trying to just keep my home!
Hopes of putting me back together well enough to resume my or any occupation appear bleak because of complications, and a future of disability looms over me along with it's economic and physical wreck of ones life and lifestyle!
Perhaps now you see "WHY I really allow" the Ad's as paying the NW54 Premium fees to keep pop-ups out and to provide other niceitys is totally out of the question for me.
I am giving what I can to the Airgun Community, if this is not enough, well then so be it...
When I first log on, some dating service pops up, either across the top of the screen or, usually, takes 3/4 of the screen from left to right, with the forum crammed into the last few inches. I just re-link and it does not reappear.
I just read a complaint on the NW 54 Forums site about exactlly the same thing that happened to you and I. All I can say for the moment, is that the administraters know about it and the ball is in their court...
