Having trouble adjusting elevation sufficiently before running out of travel on the stem of the threads of the wheel. If anyone has had this problem, please advise. TIA CraigE
Obviously I should have read your post under the model 6M thread first!
If the shots are too low, then either the gun's velocity is extremely low, or the breech seal is much too thick, i.e. it is angling the barrel down a bit.
I normally shoot a sub six. If I adjust the elevation to max (and then some), I have a chance to get near the 3 o'clock-9 o'clock axis and I need to raise the sub six to just about 6 ...almost touching the bull. While I can do this, it is not "normal" for me. I just bought this pistol and it was supposedly re-sealed by an "RWS technician" about a year ago with >100 pellets thru it. I really like the 10 and have made some trigger adjustments to get close to the same feel as my LP1 (primary pistol). Just not happy about a rear sight with no further adjustment and the precarious situation of not being able to use the set screws to define/maintain the setting. Also, your point about velocity may be valid. The target (Cibles) is tearing instead of punching....pretty ragged holes. Just a bit bummed by the whole thing. Thanks for answering. Craig
Craig, the breech seal is just an O-ring and pops out rather easily. Perhaps you can shim it. Diana actually made thin metal shims that they used to fine-tune the breech seal on all their models.
I didn't think to ask what kind of pellets you were shooting. If velocity is down you can always go to lighter pellets to help a bit. The lowly RWS Hobby is usually a pretty good 10M pellet actually and at 7 grains gets there quick.
In my experience it takes a muzzle velocity of 400 fps or just a tick under, to tear quality target paper cleanly at 10M. So yours may be a little low. Many rebuilders just replace the seals and not the springs as the latter are hard to find these days. Randy Bimrose will always replace all the bits that can be replaced, FWIW, he did marvelous things with the double-piston Diana model 60 I sent him last year.
