I've used numerous 5039 mounts for compensating for barrel droop and keeping scopes close to optical center. They work well once dialed in with a little thread lock.
Just some quick feedback, you guys who have used both the RWS "C" one piece mounts and the Beeman 5039, any down side to the RWS scope mount?
I'm asking because I have an opportunity to pick a few of these from an old gunshop that doesn't carry airguns any longer. The price is right if I purchase all of them, but if there are trade offs vs. the the Beeman mount, I'll pass.
not one guy on here has had experience with these two mounts to post a comment? I thought as The Dianawerk Collective this would be the best place to get an accurate unbiased response quickly so a person could make a decision and move forward.
FYI in case you need to make this choice also, so far all five comments I've received have been negative on the RWS "C" mount vs. Beeman 5039.
Obviously doesn't sound like the way to go regardless of the price. In the end, you get what you don't pay for. Regard, JB
The gentleman who emailed me and offered to send one "on the cuff" to evaluate, I thank you for your generous offer. God bless.
it is nice to post such a comment when not receiving free information on a 24 hour basis, when there is a financial interest on the poster's side.
Even more so when the original post was made on a Sunday! (when we are all out shooting, not hanging in front of a computer screen).
Anyway, since you are going to pass on the offer and since it is an old gunshop (that means it could very well be that the mounts they have are the old steel / Korean made versions), could you please post the E-Mail/phone number of the seller? We would be interested in purchasing them.
Well the deludge for now has ended here in SD, CA. until this next front moves in later this evening.
We actually had a strong tornando 3 miles east of here this weekend. Took the tops off a bunch of trees, made a mess, a few dozen house lost all their lawn furniture and things in their backyards. GONE! Very rare event in Southern California.
Un Abrazo, first, relax, my bark is far worse than my bite. I just wanted to walk in on Monday morning and pick them up before someone else did if they were usable. I'm not purchasing these units to sell or make money. I rarely sell anything gun related.
I just didn't wish to pick up more airgun bits that didn't serve the application well when I went to use it. Not ever having used a "C" mount in 17 years of playing with springers, I didn't want to just jump in and grab them, regardless of the price.
As it turns out, there are two different models under this product ID. One was made by....I'm sure you read the other post about this. I'm glad they posted that info.
These units are stamped "RWS" on the side rail plate and are 100% steel in construction. I've asked on the other site which mounts people have had problems with. I'd hate to put a nice scope in one and find out the hard way that it tweaked the tube, would't adjust properly, or hold its set. I usually lap rings anyway, but if there are additional draw backs with the design, I'm always cautious.
Anyway, I appreciate your reply, and the gun shop is holding these for me no problem until I get my facts in order.
If I don't buy them, you are welcome to them. There are 5 of them new, one I opened the packaging to inspect. The total is $50 for five plus whatever shipping is.
I'll know in the next day or two. My work load right now is such that getting on an airgun chat site is like a breath of fresh air.
Yes, the state of instant gratification, man did you ever hit that one on the head. You must have been here on vacation, lived here for a while, or still do. SD isn't as bad as LA, but we're working on it.
If I could post a picture on here I would. That would solve all.
Hector, if you don't mind and you have the time, here is my email address, quietvoice@earthlink.net . I will send you back a photo of the unit I had picked up an hour ago to do just that.
If there is anything I can help you with from my profession, don't be shy.
Yep, here in the North of the State (in Natomas, small town near Sacto.) Two touched down wreaking havoc, yesterday! They maybe weren't even F-1's but did property damage enough!
Ah San Diego, Loved that town! I lived there during and after some of my time in the service.Hope it's still as neat as it was in the 70's.
I live 100 miles S/W of there, and we worried about "twisters" all day too! Here in the Central SanJoaquin Valley we have had a few tornados over the past years. Rare occurances but they happen... We had nickel sized hail and thunder storms. That was enough to alert everyone to be wary. I had my scanner running all day on the Weather service channels, checking for warnings.
We californians are not accustomed to tornados and must stay on out toes for they DO happen here!
Those old RWS mounts are pretty good "grabbers. They can be counted on to hold where none will, plus they have the advantage of adjusting to a broad spectrum of barrel droop angles. A good buy if you can get them!
It's likely that you will have no trouble re-selling them!
Read your email, very informative and much appreciated. Clears up a lot of questions in this area. I lap all my scope rings before first time mounting so it is not usually an issue, but with adjustable mounts it can be.
Let me know more about what you are doing in the acoustic and sound engineering field. We've been doing film and television equipment and production off and on since the early 70's with the first two years of Saturday Night Live at NBC in New York and a bunch of soap operas back then. Finally ended up in LA doing feature films for a good number of years till we moved to San Diego.
Look forward to hearing from you and again thank you for the Diana information.
I like the newer version of the C mount OK, but the old one (with black cloth material inside the rings) is too light duty, and the design can easily cause a dented scope tube. Stay away from that one!
But on with some other info.
The new C mount is OK on 34, 36, etc. I've had them hold on 48/52 too.
But it may move if used on an RWS 54, no matter how well degreased, wrench-tightened, and Lock-Tited (trust me on this one--what a pain!). That whiplike slap is just too much for it. I MADE one work for an owner at his request, but I had to custom grind the height of the screw at the end of the rail, so the rear of the C-mount rested directly on top of it. Without the screw holding up the mount, the rear of the C mount kept slipping down onto the rail.
You shouldn't have that problem with the 5039, it definitely holds better. You still need to degrease and Lock-Tite everything very well though.
All that considered, a Mac1 FIXED drooper mount is perhaps the best choice for the 54, if you have droop and want to handle it yourself.
