I ordered a new RWS54(.177) and had it direct shipped to Russ Best for one of his custom tunes, plus I'm having him install a modified T05 Trigger Blade that's been drilled and tapped so that it has a first stage adjustment screw instead of that silly fixed crosspin RWS designed...hopefully it will break crisp like a thin sheet of glass and have the power to consistently sling CPH's and JSB Heavies(if they ever get to the U.S. again, lol) in the 900 - 940 fps range...
So I'm eagerly awaiting what I hope to be my ultimate conventional spring powered .177 plinking and hunting rig(20 - 60 yards). I still need to buy a bipod and muzzle brake for the rig but that can wait til it arrives...
What kind of groups are you guys getting and what pellets do your guns group the best with? I'd like info for .177 and .22 as I will buy another in .22 if it turns out as good as an older RWS 54(.22) with T01 Trigger Group that I had the opportunity to shoot a couple weeks ago...
The gun amazed me with its power and smoothness, it felt like shooting the rifle version of my bud's FWB65 match pistol whose action slides as well for the recoil-less featre. The weight was no where near as bad as I thought it would be...I guess my TX200MKII(.22) prepped me for it...
I'd love to hear all you guys have to say about your rigs, likes/dislikes, observations, etc...
I also have a mod.48 just got it back from the warrenty repair center in New Jersey. The rifle is just 13 months old and has back for warrenty work twice now.At 3500 rounds of CPH's it quit,a new spring and piston seal fixed that problem, then at about 1500 rounds later with Beeman Ramjet (9.6 grs.,it lost power(over 200fps)another spring and breech seal and it is shooting as good as ever. The Tech I talked with said both of those pellets were a good choice with that type of rifle. The CP 10.5 grs. group at about 1/2" at 35yds but Crosman has quality control problems. The ramjet 9.6 grs. 3/4" at 35 yds.,hope this helps.
I had a 22 cal RWS 54 and got nickle size groups at 35 yards. I used JSB domes. To get good groups I had to be very careful not to cant the gun and to hold the gun with the same pressure and rest it at exactly the same spot each shot. If I did all of that I could cover the groups with a nickle. If I wasn't that careful the groups would open up to over 1".
