hi,

i am in the process of rebiulding my diana model 23, (oldie)

Anyone have any ideas what sort of fps i should get with an old gun like this?
Am getting about 420fps with rws hobby pellets (177). about 3 ft/lbs.

I am not expecting a lot of power outta an old gun like this, but i just wondered what sort of power a rifle like this would have been putting out when new(ish)..

any info gratefully received..

also i am missing some parts offa the rear sight, can anyone post a pic of one, so i can make one myself,

m.

The fps don't sound bad for your 23...

smooth up the rough metal edges in the cocking arm area, soak that leather seal in silicon and judiciously apply some moly just behind the leather seal and at the base of the piston...should get you a few more fps and a smoother shooter.

done all that, will retest it tommorow,

I guessed that it was not far off the sort of fps i should expect.

have just polished most of the internals,
The piston seal had slightly hard & dry,
so lightly roughed up the edges with some p1000 wet and dry paper,
Have moly'd most of the internals,
will go and get some silicone oil tommorow and soak the leather seal,
rebuild the rifle and see what changes....

Also Have got a rear sight from a cheapy I had here, will just have to shape/size it up to fit the small #23..

How do you get the spring of the trigger right?

dont really understand that last reply but,

The trigger spring clips onto the back of the trigger,
just like most old spring guns..
I use an old (and very strong) set of clamping tweezers.

anyhow,
Model 23 has been rebuilt now and is performing much more healthily and a spread of about 9-10 fps so pretty accurate, plenty accurate for my little nephew to so some plinking..

going to refinish the stock for him next , not many dents on it but plenty of flakes, will post some pics when it is done...
