(Guys, please forgive the redundance with the other posts...this is a copy of my yellow-forum post from this morning.)
It sounds to me as if the problem is, you have an EARLY sight, and a LATE gun--not the other way around.
The early Diopter 75 sight has "drooping" sides, i.e. they go below the line of the actual dovetail. As Marc mentioned, these are for early model 75's, which have what I call a "curved step" mounting rail (i.e. the sides of the rail below the dovetail itself, are curved to match the receiver contour). Diana's earlier Diopter 60 sight was made the same way. You might want to hang on to this sight, as it should fit the models 60, 65, and 66 barrel-cocking match rifles, as well as the older models 35 and 50 sporters.
The late Diopter 75 sight has no "droop." It is flat below the dovetail, to fit the 75 T01 which had a "flat step" mounting rail (the rail has a horizontal shoulder below the dovetail).
This late sight should fit ALL model 75's, regardless of dovetail configuration. I have one of these sights, that at various times I have had mounted on my models 35, 50, and 60. In fact it is a "universal" fit for any Diana with a "step" dovetail as far as I know.
To sum up: the early Diopter 75 fits only early guns, but the late Diopter 75 should fit anything.
Here is another solution: Anschutz rear sights work perfectly on the Diana dovetail. And in my opinion, they are better-quality sights--much sturdier and with finer adjustments--and are also rather easier to find on Ebay, at gunshows, etc. They also fit Walther, Anschutz, and Weihrauch with the post-1980 11 mm dovetail, BTW.
To illustrate the point, the model 60's in this shot both have the "curved step" rail. The standard gun has a Diopter 60 sight with "drooped" sides. The Tyro has a LATE Diopter 75 with flat bottom and no "droop."
