Have had 3 scopes on this rifle and all will shoot jagged hole at 20 yds and then it will throw 4-5 shots 3-4 inches high. Might change pellets and it will come back to zero but will start the high shots after maybe a dozen or so shots again. Last scope was a new Leupold EFR but the rifle hasn't had a trigger job but why can I shoot one hole and then get high flyers all of a sudden. Would like to buy a rear sight assy for it and try that. Any ideas on where to get a bargain or used one? AGE said a new rear sight is about $45 plus ship. If it doesn't come around Ime going to sell it. Thanks.
...are you saying you don't have a rear sight for your gun but you do have the front sight? That blows. So you can't really check to see if it is a scope, mount or seal problem.
Can you borrow a sight from someone locally?
If it is a scope or mount problem, iron sights will shoot true.
If it is a seal problem or something else that might cause changes in air flow, then the iron sights will NOT shoot true.
Iron sights are key to starting your investigation.
You COULD simply screw a slotted screw into one of the rear sight holes and sight down the slot. Remember this is just to test the consistency of the gun to make sure that IT is not the problem. So if you line up the front sight with the screw slot and the pellet hits 3" left of center that is fine AS LONG as it always hits 3" left of center (or right or high or low). The point is to see if the gun if consistent before attacking the mounts or scope.
A chrony will tell you if there is an airflow problem by showing drastically different FPS readings from shot to shot. Can you find a chrony to use?
Does it feel or sound different when the flyer comes out?
I shot for at least an hour with ely's, crossman premier and gold hollow points and must conclude if its anything its the untuned trigger and Ime just pulling it. Was in poor light in basement at 20 yds and could hold a quarter size group offhand and maybe a little better holding on a sandbag. Front sight still a little fuzzy so will try outdoor light and better glasses tomorrow and Ekmeister will probably see it fairly soon. Thanks.
... I'm assuming you have the T-05 trigger. Forgive me if you don't. I was all pissed at the gun, the scope, the sights.... I fell madly in love with it after I adjusted the trigger screw...all the problems were a result of sloppy trigger technique, which seemed to instantly disappear after I adjusted it a bit..... just a thought.
I know how nice they can be and I have had this trigger adjusted in every possibly way for my ability. Had a Leupold EFR on it and would shoot one jagged hole at 20yds and then throw one 2-3 inches high. Ime about ready to peddle it and stay with the Beemans. Never have a problem with the 9 and the 7, just turn the screw out and shoot away. Thanks. Bob
Have you considered pellets to be the problem? The only other thing I can suggest is to pull a few patches through the bore. I have five Dianas; P5mag(.177), 24(.177), 24(.22), 34(.22), and 48(.177). I use JSB Exacts in both calibers and get awesome results with both in all of the Dianas I have. My .22cal 24 has well over 3000 rounds through it and only basic maintanence done to it, the only time accuracy fell, it was curred by a barrel cleaning. Hope this helps. Mulby
I have too many rifles as it is so this will be at the Arkansas Show for sale. Has a one piece RWS mount also and I also have a Winchester 435 that I can't get to zero either. Ime done, both will be for sale on these forums and also my rotator cuff is killin me so the R-7 is all I can handle. Thanks.
A couple years back I did in both my shoulders at the same time, I couldn't do much for myself for about two weeks. No strenuous activity, no work, no fun. Lots of painfull rehab seems to have fixed the problem, but they flare up a bit every once in a while. Good luck with it all, Mulby.
The 34B is going to Ekmeister tomorrow for evaluation and tuning as I don't have the heart to part with it. Ive gone this far so I may as well fix it good and leave it for the kids. I think they are available by special order only and the price is around $230 for the rifle. AGE had a couple on their used list way last summer and I almost bought one of those. Anyway, the saga is over. Thanks for your help. Bob
Report back from Ekmeister is that the spring is broken, AGE sent it back and said it was fine, and also a frame bolt in the front was loose and the rear holding bolt wasn't holding properly. Amazing how they could miss all that. That explains why some shots went 3-4 inches high when others were in one jagged hole at 20 yds. Its getting a complete makeover and Ime glad I stayed with it instead of scrapping it.
