Doug...

March 18 2005, 8:50 AM

I have the Legend MilDot on my Talon SS and Webley Longbow .22.

I think it is an excellent scope for the money.

Across the canyon from me are horse coral fence posts going up the opposite side of the canyon. I have the dots calibrated against those posts and nothing gets by me off the bench rest if I do my part in the shot.

Hind sight, I wish I had purchased several other MilDot scope for rifles. I like my Weaver V16 optics but it would be a better scope for my type of shooting in a MilDot version.

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another Bushnell MilDot scope within that price range. SWFA in Texas has good prices, factory "A" stock and quick service.

Thanks for the info guys, I really appreciate it. I have shot a couple of guns that have an Bushnell Elite scope and they are very nice. I have a Banner Dusk to Dawn on my RWS 350 mag. I am very happy with that scope. The mil dots I have never seen and think it would be a great asset for the Stingray in .22 cal. Just curious but are all mil dots the same size on all scopes or does it vary by the company brand. I could not find any info on the size the mil dots are on the Legend scope. Thanks for the link to the scopes, I found it the other day and have to say they have great prices.

You're welcome, the Mildots can vary by scope model

My Legend has somewhat of fat dots and recticle cross hairs but my friends newer Legend seems finer...my Elite 4200 is definitely fine dots and crosshair...I've used/owned/own Tasco Tactical/Varmint Scopes(2.5 - 10 x 40 and 6 - 24 x 40) and BSA Platinum(8 - 32 x 44) and Leaper's Accushot 4 - 16 x 56 scopes which all have very fine dots and recticles...

Excellent scope in the $150 to $200 range, I have one that has

spent time on my TX200MKIII(.22) and now resides on my Patriot(.25)...At that price point I would not hesitate to buy more, actually thinking of getting 2 more for my Hornet Multishot and Crow Magnum...at 50 yards, the dots are an inch apart...

I have a bushnell Elite 4200 6 - 24 x 40AO Mildot and the Elite is top notch but at over $450, I don't think the Legend is 1/3 the scope...

Had that Stingray long?

March 19 2005, 8:17 AM

 Doug,

I 'm just learning mine, it's quite an impressive piece of work allright! Mine is also .22 calibre, I got it in a trade and absolutelly love the thing!

Instead of scoping, I used a Beeman Sport Apreture sight on mine. Reasoning that it would suit the rainbow-like .22 calibre's trajectory and preserve the sleek lines and fast handling qualitys of the carbine. I am using the standard iris,it's opening allows fast aquisituin but it may be one size too large for fine target type shooting.

Impact and velocity on the .22 model is more than sufficent for  the style of use this model would be applied to, however I think a varmiter or a shooter wishing to use the rcarbine for long range shooting would be better off chosing the .177 calibre, fot the nature of it's much flatter trajectory. I have even mused about switching barrels myself, to just better suit these long range target aspects, but am SO impressed with the.22's preformance that I'd rather just buy another longer barreled, smaller caliber, model of Webley (AND because they are so damn PURTY!).

I think maybe the added expense of a Mil-Dot type scope might be a waste with a .22 Stingray Carbine, due to it's very heavilly curved trajectory.  To be brutally honest, surgical placement of the big .22 pill is difficult at ranges exceeding 35 yards, and without devoted pratice and very good ammo, 50 yard offhand groups are extremelly hard to hold with that .22! Maybe a variable scope with a center "dot", could suit the needs of the .22 better? I DO understand the allure of that Mil-Dot tho!

I shoot primarilly off the bench, and am still experimenting with a pellet choice for my Stingray Carbine but even so, the limits of  ME and the .22 calibre are quicklly becoming evident... Still, I would'nt trade the gun for any reason, it's now become the choice as a friend had once put it, "the one to grab if it HAS to die in one shot!" Besides, the way the Webley "fits" me, it's quality and it's suprisinglly nice trigger, have ensured it a happy, well cared for, home!

Please, if you would share your information about your Carbine, it's ammo preferences and it's preformance with me, feel free to write, I really like my Stingray too! My E-Mail is ZVP13@hotmail.com

Stingray

March 19 2005, 1:02 PM

Thanks for the advice ZVP. I will keep it in mind. I bought mine new it is the long barrel model. I was waiting for parts for my 350 to come in and could not stand being without a gun so I bought the Stingray. It is so sweet and am not sure why they are not more popular. I will email you some info about my findings on the gun I have tried many different pellets and shot it scoped and unscoped.
me and a couple of other guys started a little airgun club in our area. and I ahve shot a few different brands make and models of springers. Everyone is totaly impressed when I bring the Webely Stingray. It is easy to cock hits hard and shoulders, fits most people really well. Plus if you ever desired you could put a gas ram in it as well. That would make the rainbow trajectory a little flatter and I am sure 50 yd shooting would be within the limits on paper or plinking. Not sure on small animals as shot placement is everything.
