Am wanting to rebuild a Model 5 but unable to get the end cap off. Don't want to damage the surface so have used rubberized conveyer belt material in jaws of heavy pliers, but the material simply slips.

Have considered heating the cap in boiling water before trying to unscrew it, hoping a bit of thermal expansion will help. Any suggestions?

Thanks for responding. Yes, I found and removed the screw. It just seems the cap is extremely tight.

I put the gun in the freezer of my refrigerator last night. Thinking I'll get a shallow pan of boiling water and put the end cap in it briefly, hoping that the differences in temps (short lived) will give me an edge in starting the cap to unscrew.

Try heating endcap with a hair dryer, then a few drops of penetating oil., then

smack the endcap with a nylon or rawhide malleta few times. The combination should get some lube in there and free it up.
