I have a Daisy/Milbro 230 and a Winchester 416.

They both work and are fun to shoot. I want to disassemble them enough to remove years of accumulated dirt and eventually to do repairs on these and others I may (Ha!) acquire.

Some of the screws have the typical old Diana "nuts" which are round with a slot which require a spanner to bridge the end of the screw. I have made these tools for other applications, so that's not a problem. The ends of the screws (ends opposite the head) are concave, with a round or conical depression, and some appear to be peined or staked or swaged so that the nut won't come loose and can't be easily removed.

What's the proper way to undo these fasteners - just hold the nut with spanner and loosen the screw?, remove the staking first (Dremel tool)?, don't mess with them?

Ignorance strikes

Bob, none of my guns have this type of nut, and I am not an expert mechanic. So, while the answer is probably simple--it's too tough for me!

I highly recommend the Delphi airgun forum, domain of LD and Tim McMurray, for this sort of question:
