I just wanted to say thanks for such a great site. I found this site by accident, as I am trying to help a friend get his .177 RWS 34 set up. He purchased it thru a local gun shop, they set it up with a RWS C type mount and a RWS 4x32 scope. I say set it up, they thru it on for him and said there you go.
After he had no luck in hitting the broad side of a barn, and letting it sit in a closet for a while, he brought up the subject that he had a gun, but it's high priced junk. It almost made me cry. I enjoy shooting all types of rifles.
With some tinkering, I at least got it to shoot a decent group at 15yrds. I wanted to start close and go from there. Now mind you, at this point I did not know anything but bad habits for this gun. I am a high power rifle shooter, and do a little black powder shooting as well. Not even close to being an expert, just love to shoot.
As I said, I at least got it to group, 5 round groups the size of a dime. That's when it started doing the things listed here on the site. The scope/mount asm started to slide rearward off of the base. It was running out of adjustment on the scope at longer yardage. I also noticed that the pellet was not hitting the target straight on, but tumbling.
I figured it was time to find someone that knew more about the habits of this gun than I do. I sure am glad I found this site. The tips and technical knowledge I have found here is great. I found out early that shooting this rifle is totally different than a typical high powered rifle, but still a joy. I forgot how much I like shooting a pellet gun. I had shot the standard pump guns growing up, but nothing that matches this gun. I also had never shot a pellet gun with recoil.
I am going to put some of the info found here to good use. I am going tonight to purchase some quality pellets and throw the Wal-mart ones away. Then I will start on the mount and scope, setting it up as well.
I am sorry for such a long post. I just wanted to give a big Thank You to all. Who knows, after I am done, I may end up getting one for my son and daughter, and of course, myself.
Sincerely;
Tim Bell

high priced junk eh? clean the bore, tighten up all the screws, put ~1000 shots through it to break it in and see if he still thinks the same of the rifle I doubt he'll see it quite the same, and will probably get hooked for life on these great, fun guns

 Tim, it's good to have you with us!

 Please view Air Gunning as an "extension" to your enjoyment of the Shooting Sports. It's addictive, inexpensive, and affords many chances to shoot often and  "at" or relativelly close to Home.

 Please leaf thru past posts (sorry no "search" here) and read the many topics that will lead you towards choosing the right rifle for yourself!

 You'll find that there are many Forums about the Hobby and many opnions. Much to learn an many "tips" that will soon lead you toward proper shooting technique, accessorys, and of course, at least one gun to fit your wants!

 Have fun and again, Welcome!

Thanks for sharing with us your good results so far.

Thanks also for following through and attempting to correct some problems. I really hate it when a poster says he obtained a certin model airgun and it is garbage and is not worth 2 cents, without doing some research and work to correct a problem.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the group. Not all groups tend to be as open.
I did get to purchase some good pellets last night. The local gun shop had some RWS Supermag pellets. I cleaned the scope, mount, rail and the mounted everything up. I used loctite on the screws for the base and will do the same on the others after I am finished sighting it in.
Man , what a difference!! I am lucky enough to be able to shoot it at work. It's not far, 10yrds, but I am indoors and it at least lets me get some good settings. Know I am able to put pellet on top of pellet at 10 yrds. When I first took his gun home, you were lucky to hit the target at 10 yrds.
I think I will have to have one for myself. I guess I could always tell him he was right, it is junk!! Just kidding, but he sure is going to be impressed with the way it shoots. Like I try to tell people, it takes time, practice, and a little luck to shoot well.
Thanks again to all here in the group. I'll stay in touch.

Sincerely;
Tim Bell

Welcome to the Spring World

September 28 2005, 9:43 AM

I was a high power and black powder guy myself. Let me tell you, for me, there's nothing like springer air rifles. I have sold almost all my old rifles in order to subsidize my spring addiction. If you like precision, air rifles will beat just about any other shooting sport around.

The other thing I've discovered very much to my surprise and benefit is that the people that collect and shoot these things are very nice people. Every time I ever had a question, my post would be answered by total strangers that eventually became good friends. Without exception. There aren't a lot of air rifle people out there, it's a pretty small following, but as time goes on, if you stay with this sport, you'll learn a lot about these rifles, how they operate, how to extract the most precision out of them, and, make some good friends to boot.

Enjoy and welcome again
