I've got a LongBow and a SuperSport both in .22

November 4 2005, 8:59 PM

The Lightning will be the same as the Supersport but with a shorter barrel. Build quality of the Longbow is better IMO as is the finish. Both guns shoot really well. The Supersport is lighter than the Longbow (and my Longbow is walnut so would be a bit heavier in beech). Expect the Lightning to be even lighter in weight than the Supersport with that shorter barrel. Accuracy for both is good. Scope rails on the BSA's are 14mm rather than the 11mm standard for most airguns so that limits your choices in scope mounts. They also have the scope rail that has to be removed in order to take out the piston. Not a huge hassle but makes self-maintenance a bit more tricky. I've had the Longbow apart numerous times and it's pretty easy. Only other thing, and this is just my impression really, is it seems the Longbow is just a bit quicker "snap" when you pull the trigger than the BSA. Almost as quick as some gas-ram guns I've shot. Probably has a bit shorter piston travel than the BSA.

What's the trajectories like on those carbines?

November 4 2005, 9:11 PM

Where are they zeroed? Where do they hit at, say, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 yards?
I keep thinking I want one to hunt with, but /everything/ in the woods looks like 20 yards to me so "flat" shooting is helpful.
Thanks,

Longbow build quality is better and it has a Breach Bolt not just a rivet so it should last longer. I've seen examples of the BSA's with really nasty machining marks around the breach.

Only way try them both, both are 12-14 FPE Max rifles so the trajectories will be the same if running the same MV.

Oh nealy forgot getting the scope rail back on to the BSA after stripping can get very bad .
