Let me begin by saying that I have three BSA airgun rated scopes, a fixed four power, and two 3-12 models. I may have been unlucky, but I don't like them AT ALL. The PA on all of them are WAY off, and I can't get the four power to focus no matter what I try.
I HAVE had very good very good results with the BSA Contender, and with the Contender mil-dot line. I have several, and have had no problems with them on springers. The only one I've had trouble with was on a PCP, so I assume that it had a problem from the beginning.
The RWS 46 is my current favorite spring gun. I liked the 177 so well that I went ahead and got one in 22. They are both extremely accurate...and I have lots of quality springers to compare them to. They are 12 foot pound guns, so expect 600+ fps in 22, and 800+ fps in 177 with mid weight pellets.
My 46's both have 13 1/2" scopes on them, and they clear the loading port by two and a quarter inches.
