I phoned a highly respected tuner in the UK today,I was inquiring about a webley/venom F1 spring but since webley/venom have closed thay are hard to get, but we got talking about the diana 34 and he said that they used to tune them a lot and that they could get 21 ft/lbs from them,
now I know that they will do 17 -18ft/lbs in .22 but as anyone heard of this power?
Now I would of dismissed this as just talk but he was very clear about one that had come back a year laler with the same power and as I have said this has been a highly respected custom shop and manufacture for a lot of years.
Comments please KC.
Noisy enough to require some sort of sound suppressor in order to be shot comfortably.
Accuracy-wise? Hmm, the highere power means a sonic boom and inaccuracy. These go hand-to-hand, sometimes, unless the smoothness level of the conversion is at the highest level of expertise and of course it all comes at a price.
So it seems that these guns can do over 20ft/lbs you are the forth person that has said this including a airgun mag.
As for the accuracy the chap that I was talking to said that the 34 is a bit light for this power but there would be no sonic boom with a .22 .
It seems the 34-38 are impressive guns if you no what you are doing.
KC.
Diana 38 that he has reported 17.5fpe using a Kasner dome .22 pellet. It's a stock 1990 model, same powerplant as the 34/36.
I have a 34 in .22 that has a soft HW mainspring and it does 15fpe with Gamo match and 14fpe with JSB Exacts. It's a sweet shooter and could be more powerfull, but it is to smooth for me to want to change it.
Looking at the 34 powerplant, there is no reason that you couldn't get the 17-18fpe mentioned. A good fitting seal, the right spring, and some experimenting with piston weight and spacing should yeild very good energy levels.
My 34 .22 shoots a solid 15fpe with most pellets, with the standard spring.
I bought it new in September and shot it very little thusfar (100 to 200 pellets) so I guess the power may still go up, although I doubt that.
Last august (when I got airgunitis) I also bought a 24 .22, shot it more and the power remained stable. (6.5fpe with most pellets, with hobbies doing 7.22fpe)
btw: for both: that is exactly the advertised velocity with medium weight pellets.
Keep well and have a lot of fun next night and may 2006 bring you a lot of joy and love.
I will tell you what I know, first you need a strong spring like a John Knibbs titan or a webley F1 power-lok but you might have a job to get a F1 now webley has closed down, then you need some weight on the piston, one way is to get a old RWS 45 piston sleave you can get them from Chambers these give you weight but don,t take up so much space so you can have more spring but you will still need one weight, you might want to get a steel spring guide for strength, plus polish it all.
All airguns are different but this should give about 18ft/lbs but like you I would like to know how to get 21ft/lbs because I cannot experiment living in the UK SO I HAVE A SUB 12FT/LB 38 running very sweet with a weak spring but I thought that I knew it all about this model but I dont.
Any more info out there on a 21ft/lb 34 KC.
