D54-related Qs

January 11 2006, 12:24 AM

Is the Diana 54 Air King recoiless, as advertised?
Is it very noisy?
Did it scare the "other" birds, critters away after the first shot?

TIA

Most of the time I shoot from inside a room, just to keep the sound down(The 14.3gr cp's chrono at 825 ft/s).My wife says that you can tell when I shoot, she says it sounds like a loud staple gun.The gun is recoiless, the action slide's back and you don't feel a thing. This thing shoots through a 3/4" board at 75yds.It's too cool.

I am amazed at the responses here. From reading posts in here I thought this guy would get drawn and quartered then raked over hot coals for posting such a thing. Go figure. I certainly caught a lot of flak for something along these lines that I posted a year or so ago.

Seagull shot

January 11 2006, 12:36 PM

I don't know where you're shooting, but the last I heard it's illegal to pot seagulls: has something to do with their capacity as scavangers and keeping the beaches clean.

Is the 54 legal...

January 11 2006, 8:51 PM

...in the Vancouver/Burnaby area? I thought you all were limited to 12FPE.

In .22 cal my 54 is cranking out about 20FPE.

The law is the law. Are you breaking one or two of them with each gull killed?

The scope is a bushnell trophy 6-18x40.I shoot the crosman premier pellets sighted in for 50 yds. the drop at 75 yds was about 5".I ran my ballistic program on the pellet to 75 yds it was right on.

That's what I like - let's all look the other way

January 16 2006, 12:53 PM

Is this guy in the US? If so, seagulls are protected. After having one crap on my running shoe while getting into the car, I can say they can be personally annoying, but I still can't go around potting them. Shooting out of a residential window is ok but how close are the other houses? Get caught doing that in my neighborhood and a black and white will be in your driveway directly.

Instead of congratulating him on his "hunting" prowess maybe he ought to be informed that a cop or wildlife officer will keep his awesome machine if he gets caught? What's the additional fine per seagull (and it usually is per bird)? I know the Federal price tag on those lovely Candian geese which have conquored golf courses is $250.

There's a big difference between having crap on your shoes or crap all over a golf course,to having them take the paint off a new truck parked in the driveway.

Gulls

A cover for a truck might be a lot less expensive than paying the fine.
