Hey Guys,

Its been a while since I posted on here so I figured I'd swing by and let you all know that I've got my "brush gun" problem solved (or at least I THINK I do....I'll find an excuse to buy another gun anyways so what I say don't count for much LOL). I picked up a very slightly used (could easily have passed for brand new) RWS 34C from VA Brent on the Yellow Forum for a riduclously good price (around $160 shipped). I couldn't have been happier with the price, Brent's service, or the gun...all were/are fantastic! The carbine itself is a marvel, very well built, beautifully finished with a nice, dark-grained stock, and an excellent performer. Recoil is minimal and there is no "twang" that I can percieve. The little "C" doesnt' seem to be particuarly fussy with regards to how she is held (surprising for a light weight springer of this power level) or what ammo she is fed, though I've noticed a slight preference for Crosman fodder, CPLs in particular, in that area. Regardless of the choice, she pumps out 7-8 grain pellets with authority; CPLs averaged right around 850fps if my 'chrono recollection' serves me right. Cocking is stiff (opening and closing the barrel is quite a chore), but is getting better (read: smoother, though it was pretty slick right off the bat) with use and some light lube. I don't think the effort is really any greater than a standard length 34, just a bit trickier b/c of the shorter barrel and SOLID barrel lockup.

I'd forgotten just how good those factory Diana sights really are.....very fine with an excellent "field of view" so to speak. The four selectable rear sight notches are a very classy touch as well; I don't know of any other rifle in the same price range that has them. I'd initially planned to throw a peep on the back and maybe add an RWS 36 front sight w/ inserts, but I'm so happy with the current setup (put a 4 MOA Simmons 30mm 'dot on the back for now and it's doing a great job so far....plus, if it ever craps out and/or gets impaled by a tree branch, I can still use the superb open sights through it military-style...how cool is that?!). I haven't taken any game with her yet, but spring is coming and so, I'm certain, are the red squirrels. This time around, I'll have something better (MUCH better I think) than my Chi-Com springers to oppose them with (can't use my QB78s until about June, by which time the reds have ravaged the bird feeders and moved on). I think those tree huggin varmints are gonna be in for a nasty, German-made, surprise this year

Oh, almost forgot the most important thing LOL. That TO5 trigger, oddly shaped and plasticky though it be, is absolutely one of the finest sporting triggers I've ever used. Only the highly-tweaked single-stages on my QBs are lighter and quicker...they are both equal in terms smoothness and ease of use imo. I may have to buy another one of these things (probably a full size in .20) just to have another TO5 platform to fiddle with and enjoy (and, of course, to add a peep to and get the most out of that wonderful sight radius hehe)!

Sorry for my lengthy rambling...can you tell I like the little "C" yet? Sorry, couldn't resist lol. Anyways, I'm one happy camper and I now (with significant humility) take back all the bad things I've ever said about the 34 series. They were always good guns, and with the new trigger system, I believe they are truly world class, especially give their ridiculously low cost. I think the term "affordable quality" says it best with regards to these fine German airguns.

Ok, I'll shut up now ~hehehe~

Sorry again for the length and best regards to all of you.

Sincerely,

~~Nate S~~

P.S. Long live Diana...or is it "All Hail the Goddess of the Hunt?" LOL

You are forgiven

When it comes to the Diana 34, I'm the number one fan. (Honestly, I can't recall you're having said anything bad about them.) Like you said, its a whole lot of gun for the money. Mine is the black-and-silver 34N version, and its my gun of choice for long distance work. I shoot mostly springers, and don't have any interest in PCP. I don't own a chrony, but a friend does, and mine shoots CPLs right at 880. I installed a Maccari GSI kit and Apex seal, and its an incredibly smooth shooter. I don't get to shoot distance that often, but on occasion, I've been able to shoot under 3 in. at 110 yds.

I heard a rumor that Maccari is making Monolith kits for .177 34s. He said something about it being "a real sleeper."

All hail the Goddess of the hunt!

Fun Supply

Brad,

I think he means The Fun Supply Forum. Started by James Kitching as a replacement for Tom and Judith's Airgun Forum when it closed down years ago.

Unfortunatelly we lost James, but this excellent airgun Forum still goes on! It's a valuable resource and run by some mighty fine people and visited my some of the best posters in airgunning today!

Please have a look at it located at http://www.network54.com/Forum/79537/

 HTH,

 ZVP
