Ah! Warm Central Calif afternoons FINALLY!
The good fortune of spring-like temps and SUN(!) has allowed this recovering from surgery #1 "Gimp" to loosten those winter-tight airguns up!
The past few days, I've tried to excersize as many as possible and re-aquaint myself with some dearlly missed, quallity shooting time! A few new -to-me guns to learn, old friends to limber-up and re- Lead foul barrels on!
Strange how 1/2 a year not shooting regularrilly can open ones groups up...
My first chosen ranges of 30 to 50 yards were optimistic, and I soon changed to 20 and 30 yarders to preserve the old ego! Ha-ha, I thought I was better than I was! The Pistols I did terrible with! Rifles appreciated my steady folding workbench. The "wobbles" were WAY shakier than I remember!
That old saying of Jim Levitches, "Aim Small to Miss Small" definatelly works! You need to use the Small Bullseyes/Sharpie Marker Dots, and my personal favorite, "English Walnuts", to shrink those groups!
Last Fall thanks to my 3 yr old Granddaughter Anna, I found a new "Active Target"! Her spent and broken Sidewalk Chalk pieces make for explosive plinking targets. The rewarding cloud and puff of the 1/2 inch diameter pastels, makes solid hits very active! Ones "Target Trash" easilly sweeps up or harmlessly dissolves, GOOD stuff!
I think I've also made a BIG hit with the local vegitarian population! My shattered Walnuts have dissapeared every morning! Another very satisfying target choice!
Though nearlly environmentally unfriendlly, the Wifes short, fat Holiday candle "stumps" are GOOD target fodder also! distant hits on certain types display grtaphic "Wound Channels", always intreguing to we shooters. Waste needs to be picked-up though, as local animals just do NOT understand the worth of fragrant wax chunks... Those 30 yard gaping holes in the wax DO make you relate to the different characteristics of Head types! Hollow Points DO leave larger exit openings...
All in all, I've had some wonderfull and greatly appreciated time with my airguns the past few days! Thankyou Mother nature!I hope the climate in your area supports your Hobby this upcoming weekend also!
