In the last months I´ve been adding 6 or 7 drops of liquid silicone to each pellet tin before use them, because somebody told me that the use of the silicone in the pellets decreased the possibility of get a dirty bore.
Additionally I´ve observe an increased in the pellet velocity, arround 5 % more.
Did anybody observe the same ?
thank you very much for the advice. I´m curious about which are the reasons for not lubricate the pellets, and what damage can you done to a spring rifle if you do this.
When you lubricate (oil) the pellets and use them in a springer, any residual oil or vapors can, upon fireing, cause ignition, like a diesel engine.
This causes excess heat and pressure that can burn the seals (breech/piston) or cause blow by and possibly create enough back pressure in the compression chamber to break the mainspring.
No great advantage to be gained and possibly much damage to your rifle.
I use several drops of FP 10 oil and/or KryTech wax lubricant in each tin of pellets for my spring air guns, including my Diana 46 and the Diana 48s. The amount of oil or wax on each pellet is almost indetectible, and I have never experienced any type of detonation. I would suspect that anyone who experiences problems are putting way too much lubricant on the pellets.
I believe slightly lubricated pellets allow more accurate shooting before barrel cleaning is needed. However, it is said that some guns actually shoot less accurately with lubed pellets. So, as usual, the shooter should follow what the gun likes.
