Thanks for the reply. I think thats real cool that you have one in 22cal.Is the barrel factory? or did you install it yourself?I would love to shoot it.Its too bad you live so far away. I will be attedning the mid atlantic airgun show in maryland sometime this summer. If you plan on attending maybe we can shoot together.
Thanks for the reply, I had to play with the adjustment screw to coax it to fire, I was unable to get the safety to reset. Since my model 48 was already down and ready to ship I shipped them both to RWS for repair, I'll post the repair/solution when it arrives.
What pellets have you tried and which do you prefer.
Hey bill, There are two other things that will affect the trigger also that i failed to mention. But since they are on the way to RWS to be worked on it would be a good idea to get a new mainspring, spring guide and piston seal installed. I assume you bought it used. The spring guide is plastic and breaks very easly and causes the mainspring to buckle, thus loses alot of power.I removed mine and machined a different style one from high grade aluminum and added anouther guide to the piston head and afew nylon spacers to reduce shock. Now i have a positive lock system that has alot more power and cocks so much smoother, and i can change mainsprings in 30 seconds or less. I always keep a spare main spring. just because. Pellets this gun loves are Miesters, crosman premiers, 10gr kodiacs, and for hunting and target comp with my freinds i only use H&N copper coated lead rounds from pyramyd air. Any other round ball will roll out the barrel. ....... Ps I hope all us 5p owners stay in touch, Kinda like an owners group...happy shootin..
I get best accuracy and energy from JSB Schaks in my pistol. The only real change I made to my P5 was to make the original spring guide a solid piece. When I first dismantled it I noticed that the piston didn't have a piston rod, so I filled the hollow part of the guide with epoxy for strength. At the same time the epoxy made the guide swell a little giving it a tighter fit in the spring. This really smoothed the pistol out, no buzz and more mild shot cycle with no power loss.
I consider myself lucky to have the version I do, that is the one without the safety. I hear it can be quite troublesome. Good P5/5G shooting,
Hey Mulby, Thanks for responding.I have never tried the shaaks before. I might have to give it a shot. Since your gun does not have the safety on it can you decock it?I do admitt the safety on mine Was stiff at first. but after breaking it in it is very easy to release it now.The only thing is that I cannot decock. I have to fire the gun.Being that is the case im glad mine has the safety on it.Please keep in touch.
My .22 P5 is a factory gun. Like Mulby I live in Canada so my guns do not have safeties. They still have to be fired once cocked. With your .177 try lots of different pellets. Mine seems to prefer most 8.2-8.4gr pellets that are 4.49 or 4.5mm. I think Mulby's liked 4.52s better. My .22 also has a tight barrel and likes 5.5mm pellets like JSB Stratons and most RWS pellets but doesn't do well with the H&N pellets (most Beemans are H&N) as they have larger head sizes. Sometimes a larger pellet will group well but the extra friction is robbing you of energy. A chrongraph is good to have if energy really matters to you.
Hey Benny, Thankyou for the reply. I was just on the Diana web page and saw a smaller version of the 5g that RWS does not list and are not available in the USA. Also They list the 5gmag in 22cal. So it is a factory model. I learn something new every day.The 22cal is also not available in the USA.I would Love to have one in 22cal.I have both left and right handed target grips from the 6m model for my gun. When i get tired of shooting left handed I switch to right handed for awhile. The grips also fit my talon condor. I do the same with my rifle also. When ever i crow hunt the 5gmag comes along also as a side arm for closer shots.I will try some different JSB pellets to see how they perform in the field. Please keep in touch, tackdriver....
Like mentioned my P5 can't be decocked, it's a shame really it would be nice if it could be. The JSB Schaks that I use are the 4.5mm version, as far as I know they are only available in 4.49 and 4.5mm. Good shooting all,
the Schaks, the Exacts were the most accurate pellet I had tried in my P5. Some time ago(about a year?)I was given a sample tin of the JSB Schaks, I tested them in a few guns and was very impressed. My CZ630, D24 .177, P5, and a few other lower power guns showed impressive results on paper, and in the plinking feild. My primary ammo in other low power and especially mid-high power guns are still the Exacts in both .177 and .22.
I have had mine about 9 months ,the more I shoot it the better I like it.It is a .177 cal. and it likes C P lites,JSB Exacts, and Daisy Wadcutters.I live just west of Dayton.Oh. maybe we can get together sometime. The only dislikes are not being able to uncock and a stiff, noisy safety,it is getting better after about 2000 shots.
