Just purchased a diana 24 .22cal, nice little gun fun to shoot. But, it is a little weak in the power dept. It will shoot only the lightest RWS hobbies at 400 fps and everything alse very slow so point of impact is very low not leaving much adjustment in the sight to bring the poi back up even at 20 yards.

Nice to shoot and is accurate with the RWS Hobbies, but power limited.
My real question is, can I increase the power with a different spring, is there a kit out there?

Should do better

Hello,

Normally a 24 .22 should make the hobbies do something like 500fps or a tad better and a good 7 fpe.

I think you should open it up, inspect everything, see if seals and spring are OK and degrease and regrease everything.

You should get it fine without too many problems.

Keep well,

Joris

The Diana 24 in .22 caliber is relativley low powered but not that low powered with hobbies which are 11.9gr so it should be giving you about 470-480fps and 400fps would be right with 14.3gr pellets. My Diana 24 in .177 does about 600fps with 7.9gr crosman points. I should buy one in .22.

I would take the advice of giving it a lube and tune.

Both my 24's(.177&.22)

have 35 coil mainsprings. The .177 does 595fps(6.48fpe)with 8.2gr JSB Schaks, and the .22 does 467fps(7.74fpe)with 15.9gr JSB Exacts. The .22 will do just under 500fps with 14gr ammo. I am certain that there are at least two different springs used in these rifles, unfortunately I don't know any specs on the lower power spring. I would say your best bet would be to check the internal parts like mentioned, and count the coils of the mainspring, and then let me know(please&thankyou)how many coils your 24 spring has. If it has fewer coils than 35, you might try ordering a new spring and hope it is the full power version. HTH,

Mulby

Thanks

Just read all your replies. Much appreciated. I will disassemble the gun, clean inspect and relube with some light molly as I did the 54. I'll count the spring and get back to you with the amount of coils in it.

Different Springs

April 3 2006, 1:43 PM

Different Diana 24's take different springs.
There are six distinct versions of the Model 24.
They have three different pistons, cylinders, spring guides, and mainsprings.
They are not interchangeable.
The specific gun needs to be disassembled and measurements taken for piston ID, guide OD , and stacked spring length area when cocked.
With these measurements, it will be possible to suggest alternate mainsprings.
