I got a used but nicely tuned Model 45 about a year and a half ago. It's a very nice gun--great power, accurate, very smooth shooter. I'm not sure how long ago it was originally purchased. Is the 45 still being made? If not when did it go out of production? Was it replaced by the 34? It doesn't look like most of the common airgun retailers have it now. I'm just curious.... Thanks for any info, comments, etc.
The older one, with the bolt through the stock near the trigger and the squared trigger guard, was the earlier gun. The new one is something like a 34 with a different stock. I would take the earlier version. Folks here know a lot more about these than I do, so watch your post.
As Redfeather mentioned, there have actually been two different rifles bearing this designation in recent years.
The first model 45 was a "stretched" version of the old model 35, with a lot of internal changes including a new trigger and stock, and a lot more power. It can be distinguished by a bolt through the stock above the trigger and a big automatic safety button that protrudes out the rear of the receiver. It's a fairly complex design for a sporter, but powerful and durable. They are becoming more collectible I think. This gun was made for about 15 years beginning in the late 70's, I think.
The current model 45 is basically a model 34 action in a nice ambidextrous stock that closely resembles the original design. It is also a very good gun. It's interesting that Diana chose to continue the name and look of the old model in this way, which says a lot about its quality and popularity.
