the 900 fps rating is generally agreed to be on the slightly optimistic side. Also it would be done with only the lightest of the .22 cal pellets. These super light pellets, although very fast, would probably not be the most accurate, nor harness the power of these Diana sidelevers effectively. The Diana sidelevers are very powerful spring guns, there is only a hand full of rifles out there that generate as much or more power( real numbers not advertised). 790 is probably more realistic to the velocity one would expect with "normal" weight .22 cal pellets (i.e. 14.5 to 16 grain). My RWS M54 (same powerplant as the 48/52, just recoiless) was chronographed at 830 fps right around sea level with RWS Superdomes and Beeman FTS. Since I live substantially higher than sea level (4700 ft) my numbers are noticeably lower. A good source of information is Straight Shooters website www.straightshooters.com They have velocity figures for many different guns. A good starting place if you're researching a gun purchase. HTH
