I am about to purchase a Model 48 and have been reading the cautionary tales of scoping the RWS line of airguns. Is there an approved list of scopes or a forum that deals with this topic ? Same question goes for scope mounts.
My personal need is for accuracy in a confined field of fire ranging from 10 feet to 60 feet with the rare 100 foot shot. My old eyesight is myopic such that getting a clear sight picture needs some help to get a clean kill with one shot. Iron sights work alright for plinking stationary tin cans but I want more positive targeting for my live quarry.
The object of my affection are the Mexican Grackles, a large and clever bird, that is invading my neighborhood and displacing many of the native species. I'll post another request for stalking techniques.
The best setup for the buck is IMHO the Hawke range preferably in the 3-9 or 4-16/24 range. Get a decent mount the Beeman 5039 (aka Sportsmatch AOP55) is the one to get. You can also try the Leapers TS range of scopes, might be a bit cheaper.
I have a 54 with a beeman 5039 mount and Hawke Nite Eye 4-16x50mm scope with an Illuminated reticle. Very nice combo.
Shot more than 3000 pellets with this combo and it is great(only quarrel is that the stocks of the RWS guns is made for open sights hence the cheekpiece is to low)
PS I am waiting for my GRT kit to arrive and will report on it ASAP
A Swift 3-9x40 and a Simmons 44Mag. Neither broke, but I only put a couple hundred rounds through them. The new owner is running a Simmons ATV that also hasn't broke. I would recommend one-peice mounts for that gun.
