Just for the heck of it I placed a 10 x 18 target out in my field right at 200 yards just to see if I could hit it with my Diana 48 .20 cal. I started out by aiming about 3 foot above the target and was getting no hits. I guessed I was falling way short of the target so I aimed even higher. Still no hits. I then aimed right at the top edge of the target and starting hitting every time. The shots were falling about 8" from aim point at 200 yards. I know this is hard to believe but it's true. I was shooting Beeman FTS's and have a 3x12-44 BSA AO scope. This rifle has been a bear since I took it out of the box. I haven't tuned or even lubed it yet. Less than 600 pellets it through it so far. It's dead om at 85 yards. If anyone is thinking of buying a 48 I recommend the .20 cal. I don't have a chrony so I can't tell what the FPS is.
That is awesome performance and I do believe you, since I also own a very nice Diana 54,but are you sure it is 200 yards (180meters) and not 200 feet(60 meters)?
Yes I own 6 acres behind my house (I have horses) and have a round bale of hay sitting out in the pasture which I mounted the target on. I have targets set at 15 yards, 35 yards, and 85 yards. I didn't step it off but the target I estimated at 200 yards is at least 2.5 times as far as the 85 yard target. It may not be exactly 200 yards but it's awfully close. I'll step it off this weekend.
I am amazed at the distance and accuracy of these guns. Last night I was monkeying around shooting at doves on the top of a hill that had to be 250 yards away. I had to aim quite high but the pellets were hitting just a foot in front of them and kicking up dust. I had my scope on 12 power and set at 200 yards. I'm also impressed with the BSA scope. The model is AR312x44 and I have a 1 piece Accushot medium mount. It's perfect for the 48.
I got a really good deal on the .20. Midsouth Shooters Supply had them for 219.00. I got the last one they had on special. Everywhere else there over 300.00. If a fellows looking for a good air rifle he should keep an eye out for specials at Midsouth.
I have done something extreme with a .177 cal. Diana 25, but at (measured) 116 meters, without a scope! My target was a piece of hard plastic sheet, half-a-meter by half-a-meter, painted bright red. I chose a calm day and used all of the front sight and some of the barrel for my aiming and the highest position of the rear sight.
"Groups" were of shotgun-style, but they were there!
It is so satisfying to hear the characteristic sound of a pellet caressing the target at such a distance. No penetration, only some paint was scratched off where the pellets hit and a rush of blood to the head :^)!
I love the long shots i take my 34 .22cal to the extreem. I think ive gotten 150 yard shots. Xisico bam b21 looking interesting to me in .177 cal for the longens.
