I have 2 RWS 34's (.22) and (.177 )
These guns are both relativly new 2000 or so shots each .
I ordered a ARH (Jim McCarrie ) GRT spring kit and tar and molly for the .22 to see what it would do . Took the gun Toatly apart and filed / honed anything that looked like it would slide / slip / move ( very lightly ) but enough to take any burs rough edges off. Then cleaned them VERY WELL with alcohol. Then did the lube process.

Took the gun out and test fired it with some very heavy pellets Not 1 diesel. and the resulting twang / and feel of recoil and the way the gun fired was unbelivable!!!!!! GONE

I can't say too much about the way it cocks? still out a bit on the report on that , there is a stange groan / grind at about the last inch or so of the cocking action ? Hoping whatever it is will wear in or go away ?

NOW I have a small cup of the Molly and The Thick Tar left. I am wondering if I just take the .177 apart file / hone and clean and then re-lube with these excelent lubes if I will feel / hear a differance VS getting another spring kit ?????

Thanks to alll .........Jerry

Noise

September 1 2006, 10:14 AM

I've noticed an unusual grinding/heavy resistance noise on the last few inchs or so of cocking my model 34 as well. Has anyone else expereinced this? Any idea what it may be?

I wonder???

I have it too on my Model 40. The mainspring I am using was considered an underpowered Maccari GSI spring, however I can't find ait lacking velocity compared to the stock Diana Model 40 mainspring! I suspect the former owner of this mainspring expected a huge velocity gain with this mainspring which is almost never the case. That mainspring is for smooth discharges and superior life.   I chose this mainspring because I wanted to reduce the velocity and so the felt "shock felt at the moment of the pistons forward most stop. (I have a condition similar to a partially torn retna and wanted to protect it...) the Maccari GSI spring discharges and releases so smoothlly, that it's installation really helped!

The "sound" on mine is like the cocking shoe is dragging over coils near the end of it's stroke. This might be so, as the JM wire diameter IS different. I have toyed with grinding the cocking shoe a little to prevent contact. If you're getting a "Grind" try using some more JM Heavy Tar in there.

In every sense, I see NO wear showing up on the spring, the shoe or anywhere, nor does the preformance seem hindered in any way. Maybe the stock Diana shoe just drags a little?

BTW, as you may know the Model 40 is now discontinued and was simply a a Model 34 family variant sold without sights and had a heavy steel muzzle weight (which I quicklly removed!). My rifle balances so much better without it!
