Hi guys, newbie here. Great forum. No newbie to firearms, just to springers. I just purchased a 54 in .22 cal. Haven't fired it yet. All I've done so far is learn how to de-cock it, and using a pull-thru put a few dry patches through the bore till pretty clean. After reading all the posts about dieseling, I was wondering about all the oil in the chamber. Should I wipe most of it out or leave it? I'm sure if I do wipe it out, there's more than enough there and will re-deposit for quite some time. What do you folks do with a new gun?
The absolute best thing to do with a new gun is shoot it over and over again,at least 5oo-1000pellets before it settles down.
I have a 54,dont worry about oil in the chamber, there is not any (or enough to cause a problem). Dieseling will naturally occur for te first couple hundred shots which is normal. Dont add any oil to the chamber!
Dont open your gun to wipe any excess oils (there isnt that much to warrant opening it) and you will lose your waaranty if you open the gun yourself.
