I just received my new RWS48, set up a target, pulled back the side lever, loaded a pellet, released the cocking safety lever and returned the side lever to it's original position. I went to shoot, the trigger just pulled back all the way, and the gun didn't shoot. I'm sure that I pulled the side lever back as far as it would go but I did notice that the safety did not engage automatically when I pulled the side lever back.
So I now have what I think is a loaded cocked gun and it won't shoot. What should I do?
make sure it is fully cocked before you give up. I have heard of people having problems before like this, and most times the problem was in fact that the rifle hadn't been fully cocked. Pull back on the lever until there is an audible 'click', that's the trigger and safety engaging. Good luck with your rifle,
A number of years ago I purchased a 48 that did the same thing on it's first shot. I jstt kept cocking it (keep a good grip on the cocking lever) and trying to fire it until it finally worked. The strange thing is it never did it again after that. I called and talked to Tim Challenger at RWS about it and he said there was probably something in the trigger.

Thank you all for your input. I never felt or heard a definitive click so I also suspect it never cocked but, I was putting a fair amount of force on it, certainly more then the 38 pounds it's supposed to take and was afraid that if I tried to pull it back with more force I'd bend or break the lever or pivot.
I did return the gun and will have a replacement on Tuesday.
