First off, is it worth paying $550 for the rws 54 in .22? is she accurate enoguh to take small to medium sized game at anywhere from 10-75 yards. i kno i would have to find the right pellt for the gun in order to do so and a very high quality scope. i know its heavy, does that interfere when shooting? can you use a bi-pod on it? how is the stock? is the finish good and the bearrel high quality? is it a dependable gun? or will we have to clean it every other day? what is the best mount for this gun because of the hgih recoil?
thanks
matt j
you dont have to clean the barrel every day, once every 1000-2000 pellets.
Diana have bipods. can also fit other.
Best Mount is Beeman 5039. Trust me NO other mount will work better. it costs $40.
$550 is a lot of coin for a rifle you don't seem convinced is for you. It can be had for slightly less NEW if you shop around. It can be had for a LOT less USED if you just wait. I paid $200 shipped for mine.
There are three new ones on Gunbroker.com. $499 plus shipping. Offer $499 if they pay shipping, and you can save $20-$30. There is a used .177 on GunsAmerica.com with an asking price of $375. Offer $300 plus shipping.
I love mine. very accurate and powerful. Crosman premier pellets are the best followed by Sheridan dealobo with the 3RD being Jsb in 16 gr.
I have taken pigeons out to 75 yards without a problem and larger game out to 45 yards. The gun is a tack driver and very well built. clean the barrel as stated above. Use RWS scope and mounts and you won't have a problem.
Only problem is I'm wondering if a sling can be mounted on the gun. the but of the gun isn't a problem But I'm concerned about placing a screw in the front of the gun? I don't want to interfere with the sliding action of the barrel etc.
Yes the 54 is a real killer out to 75 yards. And it will knock down prarie dogs at that range...granted there si a lot more suffering after 50 yards but it will destroy tissue enought to send the little rat to Allah.
Do not be tempted to purchase a .177. It will not smash your varmints well at that range.
I have a 350 in a 177 it does well out to 50 and after that the round is just flying for the sake of flying.
the 54 is a dream. Use a pod...unless you are Arnie Swartznaggar. This is a heavy gun...much machinery there.
Use ony a Burris scope. I use two. Pop for the Mil Dot...you will extinct any species in the area.
Use domed Premiers...start with them and stay with them so that your ranging is consistant...the best gun cannot compensate for poor holding or swapping velocities with rounds.
