Ive had my RWS 34 Panther for about 3 weeks almost its starting to come along. I decided on a BSA 2z7x32 AO scope with a 1, 1" high piece scope mount (I thought I might go with a 4x16x50 Simmons scope). Anyway my overall impression of the Panther 34 is it it as well made air rifle powerful and becoming fairly accurate. Right now I'm only shooting 15-20 yards at my home range, I've narrowed it down to 3 pellets that it shoots well now, they are RWS Super domes, Gamo Match and Crosman wadcutters. I just got some RWS Meisterkugelns haven't shoot any yet.

As for build quailty it is superior to the Gamo Supreme in material but its not as smooth of course the Gamo is a 2 yr. old gun. As of now they only seem equal in accuracy shooting the same pellets.

did you do the tune yourself?

My 34 panther .22 is on it's way from Midsouth in Tennessee - should be here Monday - woo-hoo! I've had a 34 in .177 for 12 years, it is a great gun. But I have never tuned or modified it.

What exactly was involved with your lube tune?

RWS 34's

January 6 2007, 7:43 AM

Hi All

I have 2 RWS 34's (177 ) ( .22 ) They are about 9 months old at about 3 months old and 1500 or so shots through them , I ordered a GRT spring kit from Air Rifle headquarters .

I built my own spring compresssor and took the .22 down cleaned every thing that could be cleaned and then honned de-burred every edge and part that looked or felt like itneeded it . The re lubbed with the Heavy Tar and Molly Lube ...Put the GRT spring in .

It felt and shot a LOT smoother but seemed to have a touch LESS POWER than the stock spring ?? Sooo I took it back down and really cleaned up the old stock spring and made shure that there where no bures anywhere around or on the spring , re installed it .

It now shot smoother and was back to original power levels ( Sorry I don't have a Crony . But gaged it by shooting point blank into clear soft pine ( same board every time ) and measuring the depth of penitration with same type pellet .

Both the 177 and 22 seem to favor the RWS Meister ( spelling ?) flat head wad cutters as for accuracy .

They seem to cock a bit easier and the twang and vibration is less. Accuracy stayed about the same at 50 -60 feet.

I will say this , there was a LOT of Gunk - Junk - Small Metal shavings etc. inside .

But they are very nice now .

The Spring Compressor I made was one that I found on one of the web sites and is a pair of threaded rods some Very heavy boards , wing nuts ,washers and a few cut outs in the wood to accomadate the assembly .

Take care have fun be safe ....JerryL944

Don't misplace that GRT spring

I have found that most all RWS springers break the factory springs, usually at the ends. They are over hardened. I have also used your method of shooting into boards to see differences in power and came up with a peculiar result. Shot over a chrony into soft pine and found that with some pellets, increased velocity did nothing for penetration, but increased expansion. A better medium than wood is duct seal. It is consistent and you don't have to cut it open to see the results. Great stuff.

January 8 2007, 5:01 PM

Nope I am going to hang on to the spring and seal that came with it and the guides etc .

since I already have it .

But what you brought up about the chrony and the expansion I never thought about ?? makes sense .

All I do is kill paper anyway and a chipmonk here and there .

Take care have fun be safe
