poi shift in my new 43 Panther was cause by...

January 11 2007, 1:41 PM

the variety of pellets I was using! .22 Crosman premiers were used to sight-in, then I went to try a Kodiak, and the poi went up 6" on a 10 meter range!

I concluded that the light weight premiers came out of the barrel before any significant recoil. The Kodiaks, being much heavier & slower to leave the barrel, exited the muzzle after the strong recoil had caused the gun to pop-up.

RWS 34,'s POI

I have 2 34's One in ( .177 ) & a .22 )

It does make a difference if you are using the SAME BRAND Pellet / WEIGHT / STYLE FROM SIGHT IN TO EVERY DAY SHOOTING .

I keep my guns in my garage so that when I shoot outside they are just about the same temp. as the outside air temp. The Poi will vary from what temp. you sighted in at to what it is when you shoot .

You might want to make sure all your stock to gun screws are tightened down with ( Blue Lock -Tite ) The scope mount screws are tight .

I have found myself on the first shot of the day flinch / or my hold too tight ??

But yes I have had POI change on me and then come back to original again .

Just many many variables to the equation ....Gun / Amo / Weather / Shooter . Then I have read that if you fire several ( 5 -10 ) or more in succession that the spring / seal / air chamber heats up which can change things a bit .

At any of the sniper training schools they teach that you KNOW where your weapon will fire first shot COLD at a given temp. for that day and time and then if more shots are needed / they change click settings as to whats needed as to air temp /wind / etc .

Have Fun Shoot Safe ..... Jerry
