Does it have one trigger adjustment screw?

If it does, turn the adjustment screw counter-clockwise. This will lengthen the first stage, and lighten the second. HTH,

Ok turned it counter clockwise and it is still very stiff. I turned it 1/4 of a turn. How far can it go before it elimintaes the stage?

until you feel that it's light enough, if you loose the second stage go back 'til you find it again. Here is a link to a great site on the 54(same action as 48)with good trigger info; http://www.eddiecolwell.tzo.com/RWS-54.htm

Be patient, it takes a few seconds to load because of all the great pics/info. The trigger help starts about halfway down the page. IMO, a very helpful page. HTH,
