I was browsing though Cabela's Bargain cave the other day and came across two very cool little guns. I was surprised to see the RWS symbol on them and caught my attention. They are supposed to be 92's?? according to the lable, however no one could tell me anything about them since they are not carried by Cabela's (who knows where they got these twins). I believe they are made in Spain. They are really small breakbarrel springers sized almost for children. If anyone has information about their quality, power, and accuracy I would appreciate it.
they are a Spanish made rifle manufactured by Cometa, I can't remember what model of that brand the 92 is. They also make the RWS 94 which is a Cometa Fenix 400 which has an excellent reputation. I've only read about them, but I don't remember reading anything bad about them. If you Google search 'Cometa', you might find retailers that carry them and find out more about the model you saw. HTH,
is made by Cometa of Spain and is the Cometa 200 in Europe (.17 cal.) If it is a .22 cal. it is the Cometa 220. I have both the RWS 94 and RWS 93 (Cometa models 400 and 300 respectively) and they are very good guns in my opinion. My RWS 93 will shoot right along with my Beeman R-7 for accuracy at about a third the price (I paid 110 bucks for a new 93 and 160 bucks for a new 94). Both will remain in my collection. While the 93 is not a thing of beauty, it IS very accurate as is the 94. The Cometa line is very popular in Europe and are known for their accuracy and quality at an affordable price.
These guns were imported to the U.S. by RWS for awhile, but apparently are no longer being imported - to bad, as they were very good guns at a very reasonable price. Additionally, unlike a lot of air guns, they shoot very close to the advertised velocity. My 94 (.17 cal.) clocks an honest 940 f/s (avg) with 7.9 grain cpls. The 93 is advertised (by the manufacturer) to shoot 858 f/s and the RWS 92 (Cometa 200) at 726 f/s (.17 cals.). Not bad.
Some have complained of spring deteration on the RWS 94. I have not experienced this, at least not yet. If I do, the spring is relatively easy and inexpensive to replace. The RWS 94 is a very good copy of the clasic Feinwerkbau 124 and one of my favorites. I have several Diana made (RWS) rifles and while I think they are a bit better in the fit and finish department, I have not been disappointed in the Cometa made RWS line. They are a good value IMHO.
If you can get a good price on the RWS 92, and it suits your fancy, it might turn out to be a good buy. I wouldn't mind having one myself.
