Hi Mike ,
While you are at it you may as well check the breech seal as it will probably need replacement too .
The GSI spring is my favourite for the 48 and the 34 ..unfortunatly JM doesn't make them any more .
You need to take out the sharp edge on that GSI spring ..at the wire ends ..round it off with a dremel .Then polish the spring ends with 200 grit then 400 grit emery . polish the piston too and the cut outs in the tube need to be "ramped " so as not to nick the new seal or any other future replacement .Use a Small file and take it to a 30* angle to eliminate the sharp edge on the inside of that cutout .You need to deburr the slots from the inside and the outside edge .Then you can start the lubrication ..
Molly containing 65% or more molibedenum disulphide is best ..and a little goes a long way ..you can use Dow corning M77 or Honda molly from your local Honda motorcycle dealer . Apply with an artists Brush to the side of the piston behind the seal , the ends of the spring , the cocking shoe and the anti beartrap , the sides of the spring and the washer in the back of the guide .Mix some moly 50% with lithium grease and apply to the steel plates in the To1 trigger and the piston rod end where it catches with the trigger .
mix 50% oil to molly and with a brush apply to the joints on the cocking links .
assemble and enjoy your rebuilt 48 ..it will now shoot better than a new one
and give you unheard of shot to shot consistancy ..and accuracy .

Frank thanks for the info.....could not get a gsi spring so I just polished and reinstalled the factory one....polished and deburred everything and properly greased + new breech seal....i have tried all kinds of pellets/ weights and still dont have the accuracy of my 34.177.....it is a little better I think but again not what I had hope for when I got this 48 in .20 cal....I shoot with a bsa 3-12x44 and have a adjustable gamo droop mount.....can shoot out to 20yds. with a inch to inch/half spread....I cannot see this gun shooting out to 40-80 yards with this kind of accuracy as I have read others doing so.....I have noticed that out to 20 yards I have about the same accuracy with open sights.....again power is important but accuracy is more so....I bought this thinking the .20 cal would be the best for target/hunting with a flatter tajectomaybery tha .22 cal...maybe a new custom spring/seal and beeman 5039 one piece mount would help but the again I hate to spend much more $ and time on it....or maybe look for another out of the box accurate gun....rws??? beeman??? airarms???? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Mike..........

The gun doesnt like ...

Try some JSB's in .20 and some H&N FTT 'S in .20 ..you should get .25" at 30 yds benched ..and .50"-.75" @50yds benched .

I may be able to locate a GSI spring for you ...

Scope?

May 7 2007, 3:42 PM

1 to 1-1/2" with open sights at 20 yds is fairly respectable. Since accuracy is the same with scope or open sights - wonder if scope POI consistency might be the issue? Am having problems in that regard with my 350.

Try your 350 without the scope and see how it groups , it should give you a nice tight group . Its a known scope killer ..and if the poi is all over the place you may have blown the reticle .
Time for a new scope ...or maybe a peep this time lol.

I would like to thank all for there input.....Frank if you know of were I can get a spring/like gsi...something that will increase accuracy even if power is lost somewhat I really dont mind....Would like to know what scope mount would be a good one....tried rws-c mount and the set screws got stripped in side for to many adjustments for different guns...didnt care for amount that has to be removed from gun to tune in elevation/droop.....any info as to a good hooded front and peep rear sight....I think I still may have some good enough eyeball left to do 20-40yds. open sifgts...Thanks again....Mike.....
