I received my new 34 yesterday and mounted a Leapers scope with Accushot scope mount and rings.
The scope rail on this airgun is STEEL and I let the set screw hang over the front of the scope rail as recommended in some of the posts.
I sighted in the scope and I am VERY pleased with the results. However, the eye relief isn't what I would like it to be because the scope should be moved back and it is back as far as it can go .
Can I move the scope mount back more on the scope rail and use one of the holes in the rail for a stop being it is steel,or will I still have a problem that they have with the aluminum rail?
I have done a search on this topic and know they have a problem with the aluminum rails.
Any help or info about the steel rail on this 34 would be greatly appreciated.
I have 2 RWS 34's one in .177 and one in .22 They both are set up with the RWS 1 piece adjustable mount. The .22 has the Leapers 3 - 9 X 40 and I have the mount set back against the screw that sicks up on the 34.
I know it's been said don't use that as it will shear off .
I also put a very thin peice leather between the mount and that pin / screw.
I have about 2500 shots through each gun and have not had a problem with them coming loose or the pin / screw shearing so far .
One thing I think might be important is to clean off the mount screws really good with acetone or lacquer thinner and then use BLUE LOC-TITE . Let it set up for 24 -36 hours before cocking and shooting .
I think what shears that pin / screw off is that the mount screws come loose and the mount / scope then can slide back against that pin /screw and acts like a battering ram on it . ??????
I'm not quite sure what that screw is for or called , you might have to go look at the RWS 34 schematic / parts page.
I think it's for a scope stop but I'm not sure about that .
That small piece of leather that I said was used between the mount and the screw was from an old jacket , ( very thin leather ) but can be from any source. When putting the mount on just make sure to push very tight . ( so that once you have the mount tightened down you can't pull the leather out. ) It will be a very small piece about 3/16 X 1/8 or so ) just enough to act as a cushion .
I might get some flack back about this method , but it is working for me and my RWS 34.
I checked the Model 34 schematic and it identifies the mounting rail as schematic #21 and the THREE mounting rail screws as #22.It doesn't even show or identify the large screw.
I will give RWS a call and let you know what they tell me.
I had always wondered if that large screw was a stop as well and so this confirms it. I used the RWS C mount that had the two stop pins and with loctite it seemed to work also, not shure if they make that mount anymore. The 34 has a good amount of jolt and I don't know if it would ever sheer that large screw off or not, but glad someone asked about this.
You say in your post that you have a schematic. I have a 25 year old Model 34 and the piston gasket has just recently disintegrated. I fired a shot and the pellet was still in the breech. When I opened it up, the inside of the cylinder was full of what was left of the gasket. I need to know a part number for the gasket so that I can order a new one. Do you have a web page for a parts list or schematic?
