What are your experiences with aftermarket replacement springs for these airguns.
Mine just broke its original after 10+ years and I want a decent replacement. Looking for accuracy/smoothness before all out power.
Model is a 22 cal and was running at around 750fps with JSB pellets, before it broke.
Thanks.

Go with a JM

July 29 2007, 6:48 AM

go with a James Maccari replacement spring or kit. I have one of his springs in my M54 ( it was installed when I had it tuned by Ed K ). His springs are the best, better than stock Diana springs. Should last you a long long time.

Nathan

Macarri Spring

July 29 2007, 9:45 AM

I have a RWS model 48 in .20 caliber that I just recently installed a Macarri GRT kit in. The kit includes a spring, tightly fitted guide, and top hat along with a small container of heavy spring tar. I also purchased a new piston seal since I was going into it. I installed the spring as is with no spacing hoping to calm it down a little. The result is a much nicer rifle that is easier to cock and extremely smooth firing. It was doing around 905 fps with FTS 11.5 grain pellets, now it does around 820fps with the same pellet. It is night and day difference in the gun with the macarri kit installed.

Hi David,
I recently installed a Maccari spring kit in my 54 .22. INCREDIBLE! It's like a new gun and is amazingly accurate! At 50 yards shooting sub 1/2" 5 shot groups is the norm...something it never did before. Muzzle velocity with JSB Diabolo Exacts is 754fps. I followed the detailed step by step tune instructions posted on this forum by John Stewart. Excellent guide and very easy to follow!

John Stewart instructions

August 12 2007, 7:08 AM

I couldn't find the post either but I know it's in here somewhere. I do know he has given his email before and offered to send to whomever:

johnrstewart@optonline.net

I've corresponded with him and he's a fantastic guy, very helpful!

I was very very frustrated with my 54 until the tune. Never gutted an air rifle before and followed John's tutorial to lose my "virginity" and this is the result. I love my 54 now!

The outside diameter of the black ring is 1"

That's some fine shootin'

August 12 2007, 9:24 PM

I can't shoot mine that well at 50 yards though, but I can get under an 1 inch all day long, which is ok with me. My M54 is almost as accurate as my AA410 ERB and that says alot. Alot of people complain about Diana's with the plastic trigger, over stated velocity and this and that, but they are very accurate well made guns that are reasonably priced. They are just as good as the other German and British guns if you take the time to learn to shoot them.

Regards

Nathan

True Nathan, though the plastic trigger might put some people off, it is only the end bit that's plastic, the rest of the trigger that takes the weight of the spring is all metal and well up to the job.
They really are first rate guns and good value for money.
