I bought a walther nighthawk co2 pistol package a while back ,it comes with a nice little compensator(plastic with metal insert for threading on barrel).
When i shot it inside i would wrap a cloth around it and secure with rubber bands(compensator has holes in it)
This would quiet the report ALOT!
Fist off all the term silencer does not exist in the firearm world...This is a word hollywood uses and for that matter anyone who doesnt know what the proper term is...which is "SUPRESSOR"...a supressor is a device which by itself will not quiet down a firearm unless the ammunition is also downloaded to below subsonic speed...as for airguns.....dont waist your time...will work however as a counter balance......Airborne...All The Way........
FYI it does not matter what ammo you use in a Suppressed Powder burner it suppresses the sound out of the weapon it is the sonic crack that is not effected unless you use Sub-Sonic ammo Sub-Sonic ammo used & your good both ways. I shoot High Velocity ammo with a S&W Model 41 Suppressed & a Walther P22 also suppressed the sound is the same except for a sonic crack useing the high velocity Vs the Sub`s...
As for a lets say a 22xx air gun by useing a Muzzle Brake with vents either drilled or machined out the sound stays the same. If you infact use what is called a Muzzle Cover with NO holes or machined cuts in it depending on barrel placement will effect sound level.. the further the cover from the end of the barrel the quiter the sound the closer to the end of the barrel the louder the sound. So if you want to make less noise purchase or machine a Muzzle cover instead of a Brake.

Your are wrong on both counts Mike. Subsonic ammunition does help reduce the report

but a good suppressor does work well reguardless of the type of ammunition used. Suppressors also work well on Airguns. They work better on PCP and CO2 airguns but reduce the report on springers also. They are very popular in Europe where they are not regulated like in the US. Do a Goggle search on the subject for more information on suppressor designs and how they are made.
