I usually remove the piston seal for a good cleaning. gently pry up outer edge with a screw driver.

Here we have piston and seal apart, place in pan for cleaning. NOTE: The groove in piston seal goes out when we assemble.

With your parts in the cleaning pan, you will want rubber gloves at this point. I use brake cleaner to clean these internal parts, works great and does not damage seals, and lots of paper towels. NOTE: Not the trigger assembly.

First take two sheets of paper towels and the wooden dowel and make a big Q tip out of it holding paper towel in place with rubber ban. Taking the compression chamber in left hand spray brake cleaner directly into chamber, clean this out well, being sure to get the Bottom corner. Changing paper towel as needed. clean well.
