I have a RWS46 in .177 and am using CPL's at 837 fps. I have never cleaned the barrel but would like some advice on the proper way. I have heard that the Crosman pellets lead up barrels. If I ever need to clean the barrel what method should I use.
Have heard people say use they a rod with a barrel saver on under levers. Some people say only use a line from a weed eater with a patch. Others say don't use a brush and some say use a brush. Some say patches only.
So if anyone can give me some advice I would be gratefull. Don't want to ruin the barrel.
or a fishing line tied into a loop at the end , and a flannel patch with a couple of drops of goo gone on it ...pull through the barrel and repeat till a patch comes out clean .
Point it toward a bright light. I'll bet you see a nice, clean bore. If you really feel compelled to clean, take a length of weed trimmer line, melt one end with a hot screwdriver and thread a soft cloth patch on down the other end. Pull it through the barrel.
Powder burner bores are cleaned to rid them of caustic gunpowder residues. A lead flake or two will get pushed out your bore by the next pellet. Barrel cleaning of a pellet gun is much to do about nothing in my opinion. But clean away to your heart's content if that's what you like to do. I clean if accuracy is suspect. That's not very often.
"but I'll be needin' that gun, fer squirrels and such."
nice well made and easy to use "Bore Snake" from Mac1 Airguns as well as the cleaning pads. Price is very reasonable IMHO. GooGone works great and I would not use a rod or brush on my guns.
The standard practice is to NOT clean the barrel unless accuracy starts to fall off. Some say that a bit of leading can actually improve accuracy.
