Nice!

Pretty decent for a first attempt! I like the ridge you left to position the trigger finger. Lots of hours in them, I bet. What kind of wood?

The wood is some...

November 25 2007, 5:14 PM

oak I happened to have in the workshop. It is a real pain to work with. I've built two more grips since then using different wood and I think almost anything is easier than oak LOL.

Thanks.

Shoulder stocks for pistols

February 23 2008, 2:38 PM

Melloroadman,,no I have not made one for a P-5,,only cause I dont have one.(P-5 is on my short list)Ive made a couple for my Cros.XX,s. (go to bottom of this page, click page 3 & click on Tim Posts Pics) You will see my latest pistol shoulder stock,& grips. Russ, are the back sides of the P-5 grips flat? If they are flat that makes it very easy to make grips/stocks,unlike the pain in the a$$ Crosman offset backsides! Melloroadman,, If grips are flat on the back I would be more than happy to make you a shoulder stock for your P-5. (Free,if you can final sand & finish). What I have in mind for mine when I get it (soon,Bass Pro gift cards from Xmas only need a little cash supliment!) is areally short lop version! Will most prob. be a simple laminate like the one in my pics.. Nuthin fancy, but efective! Tim

re stock

February 23 2008, 3:00 PM

I would have no problem in sanding and finishing the stock . I pulled a grip off the 5 and the frame that the grips screw on two is a hollow flat rail if that makes any since to you . I pulled the grip off my 1377 and i saw that it was sold but had a step in the front of it the 5 did not have that . When do you think you might have you p5g magnum so you would really have one to measure from .Marvin

P-5 stock

February 23 2008, 3:38 PM

Melloroadman,I started to tell you just trace outline of factory grips for me,,but, there are other issues,,I must have my P-5 first so I can address comb drop ect. relating to proper eye alignment w/ sights,& you just have to have "gun in hand" to make grips ect. Then it occured to me,,also,,pistol sights WILL NOT work w/ short shoulder stock. If you dont know what I mean,,hold your pistol close &look at sights,,See?? My understanding is P-5 cant mount a scope & Im not shure if any other sights are available that would be condusive to a short shoulder stock? (eye closer to sights) Dont loose hope MelR. It can be done! Im shure others here will "chime in" w/ advice! Looking forward to "shapin" some wood! Tim.

Grips

February 23 2008, 5:14 PM

Get a grip Bill!
Absolutely gorgeous work!!!!! After seeing the pics of yours' I'm afraid to even glance at my old 600 lest I feel inclined to wet on it.
Looks like it's about time I paid a call on a friend here in the Ozarks who does custom sawmilling of specialty woods here in the Ozarks to see what he might have stashed away.
*&^%$#@! Just what I need----another project.;o( Tom

Tim

February 23 2008, 5:36 PM

Tim i think it would be better if you had gun in hand first and if you are thinking of buying one it would save me $50 -$60 in shipping mine back and forth. The p5gmag is scopeable but they sweated the rear sight screws to the tube in the inside so you have to take it apart and remove that then a rail fits in the place of the rear sight a 3 inch 11mm dove tail is then screwed on where the rear sight was. Next you have to sweat the screws back to the nuts again . Like i have said this thing vibrates and they must have been afraid that it would shake apart . The old p5g was not that way all you have to do to it is remove the screws and screw the dove tail on. As far as the sights go i dont think that would be a problem it would be close to looking at a rifle sights on a normal center fire rifle i believe but i could be wrong. Lets see how it goes with your purchase and thanks because i can not work with wood other than the final sanding and finish it just does not work out . Marvin

Custom sawmilling?

February 23 2008, 6:10 PM

Mr Tom,,Is your friends sawmill buisness based on a "WoodMizer" saw mill?? Just a guess on my part. I had a WoodMizer LT-25 sawmill & made a living from it for a couple of years. Like my Diana 34,s,, I wish I would have never sold them!! All my grips/stocks have been made from my "stash" of fine wood I cut from logs here in S.C.. (plenty left in my wood stash)!. Great satisfaction in working w/ wood from the raw form of logs. (I know) I built a small Chapel from nothing but "logs" w/ my sawmill. I was/am very proud of it, but the best thing is my oldest baby girl just got married in "my" chapel in Nov.!! Im very proud of "my chapel" (Church). Oh! I must get back on airguns! I was "hired" by Church owners to take out turtles in lake (in front of Church),,eating new stock of bream & bass,, From the hood of my truck w/ my Diana54,,GREAT fun!! Popin heads off turtles! FUUUUUN!! The day of the wedding a so/west wind blew alot of decapitated stinkin turtles against shore near the Church,,oh well!! I just kept my mouth shut!! Tim.
