This is the RWS/DIANA 45 .177
Nice fitting stock
Leather washer, basic trigger, under powered.
Here in the UK not much info available unlike Air Arms or Weihrauch springers.
I have BSA, WEIHRAUCH, AIR ARMS springer but this 45 seems a lot of maintenace with the leather washer to even get near 12 ftlbs.
This is my latest addition to my collection Daystate MK3-FT-R .177
The first model 45s were leather sealed and had a pin at the rear of the stock above the trigger. Diana discontinued the gun in the early 90's I believe and re-issued it due to demand, a few years later. The later version had a synthetic seal and did away with the pin at the rear. I believe these were 800+ fps capable. Maybe yours will get stronger with the rejuvinated seal. You could talk to JM and get a synthetic seal if the leather doesn't come back. Nice rifles - work at it.
"but I'll be needin' that gun, fer squirrels and such."
I have got one like yours in .22 . The 45 was born in 1978
as an answer to the hw35 and fwb124/127 It was marketed in the uk as the original 45 on the continent asthe rws 45 and in america it was the beeman 250 and crossmam challenger 6100.
the correct title should have beenthe diana LG45 it never took of in the UK though I dont see why they are accurate
and can be powerfull can do 15-16ft/lbs with a 34 Coil titan
spring and perhaps a P.T.F.E Washer T R ROBB Fits the washers if you send the piston. I have a 12ins barrel on my one very compact. Lee.
Steve I was looking at your 45 and I see it dose not have sling swivels my one has them and they look original.
On my cylinder it says R W S DIANA 45 is yours the same?
Lee.
It looks like my swivels have been added then, but its the same mod.
If you dont like the leather washer why dont you try a p.t.f.e one? I dont have one myself but I have heard they are a improvement but dont have any first hand experience but I was thinking of sending my piston to terry once I think obout 15 pounds at the time I expect you know his number.
Lee.
In the process of soaking my leather washer will try this first.
Sorry but I do not know Terry.
I will see how the Leather washer is first.
As I would like to keep as original but,
P.T.F.E could be an option if power still low, inconsistant and dieseling bad as would like to use for HFT.
How is your's power, consistant any dieseling what pellets you find work well?
Because like you I live in the UK so I have to run my guns at low power but when I first got my 45 someone left a full spring in it 34 coils and to get it legal I had to cut of 5-6 coils. If I was in the USA I think 15ft/lbs would be easy.
Although some dont like them they have a bit of a fan club and can go for a fair bit of money.
Likes rws pellets and T.R.ROBB NUMBER IS 01268 752888 He has a web site but you would need to phone him to discuss it before sending the piston.
Lee.
The leather piston seal is riveted onto a piston rod extension on Diana 45s below Serial # 283558.
Replacing the leather with a plastic seal is possible, but difficult without access to a lathe to drill and thread a hole into the extension after grinding off the riveted end.
You are right this job is best left to someone who has done it before and knows what they are doing, T robb is the only one that I know who dose this routinely.
I bought last week a Diana 45 just like yours, of course is a second hand one.
The first I did was go to my airgunsmith, full dissamsemble, clean, lube and washer was changed by an original one (he worked with the former Diana representative and still has some spares). I kept the old one because it was in good shape.
Perhaps it could be of some help to you...
Please, if you try to build one take note that this washer is used and it is dry.
Put the 45 back together this morn after soaking the washer for 20hrs.
The washer became softer, still same problem put finger over transfer port
and piston can be pushed home no resistants, and pulled back no suction at all:(
So put it back together maybe tension of spring will maybe shape washer just fired now,
wow lots of smoke,
When it started to settle put some 7.9gn webley mossi's express and got a reading of 700fps 8.59ftlbs
With Daystate FT 8.4gn reading of 659fps 8.10ftlbs
What a dissapointment.
Will not be using for HFT now, looks like I will wipe her down and back in the cupboard.
Have you inspected the transfer port to be sure there is nothing jammed in it??
I have no chrony at the range this weekend, so I couldn't test power. But I can say it is a little beast, I zeroed at 10 meters and shoot up to 25 meters aiming exactly where I want impact with no problem (targets were boxes of a square inch side, near a FT killing zone size)
I used H&N Diabolo Sport for target shooting and open sights. I tried some 50 meters shoots with an acceptable performance (about 1.5 to 2 inches groups) for open sights and too light pellets.
Next weekend (12-8/9) I will test speed (so, power) and I'll let you know.
I have never seen a Diana45 with that stock. Maybe because I'm in the US? I have a Diana 35, vintage March 71 and your stock sort of looks like the back half of it. Then I looked at my Anschutz 335 because the first thing I thought at a glance before actually reading was, Hey that guy has a 335 like mine! lol The front of your stock looks very much like my Anschutz 335 which is also a '71 in blond wood. But as wierd as it sounds your stock is not like my '81 factory black walnut stock Diana 45 at all.
You're freakin' me out hahaha.
Great rifles eh? Thanks for the pics. You've got a nice one.
I have a pair of newer 45's , your's looks my 50T01 which is the model produced after the original 45's, but before the latest reincarnation of the mdl 45's . I think mine (the 45's) are the same internals as the 34,36,family. My 50T01 is an entirely different gun, it's the one that was built in the mid 80's to compete with the new generation of FT guns. The action is the same as the older 45's but they added an underlever cocking mechanism, but that big pin above the trigger sure looks familiar. Help me out here, as I have this 50T01 that needs some TLC.
