Velocity in .22 is 1000 fps and in .25 is 800 fps.
as I read this post!Walther Falcon hunter in .25? I can hardly wait for more details on the new crop for 08.I for one will be leaving the Chinese and Spanish imports on the shelves in anticipation of more top grade German air rifles from Diana.
"The Almighty grants us rights, men restrict them".
I have always wanted the 52 luxus but am going to be afraid to see the price of one, that walnut stock with the skip line checkering reminds me of the older Savage Anschutz sporter rifles.
Maybe just *maybe* if we band together on a group buy of say 30 or more ...some .25 cal springers could make landfall in the US ? 100% prepay if necessary (to be fair to the guys at Umarex) for those that would be seriously interested . Especially a 52 Lux in .25 mmmmm yummy
One call for a .25 cal 52 Luxus ...now the waiting game to see if it will be possible ??? Anybody else gonna back this up ? *IF* it comes to be 100% down + minimum qty requirements *IF* there is enough intrest *IF*Umarex sees advantage in doing so ...I hate "If's " .... 48's 52's or 54's is where my intrest lies . Not so sure the Walther Mossy Oak Hunter in .25 piques my fancy much ...pretty skip line checkered walnut in a side lever ...Yup!
Just curious, but when you buy a gun like that, do you actually shoot it, or just wrap it up and preserve it? Something in the order of a original Ford Mustang or 57 Chevy , that was stored from day one.
I'd every intention of preserving it ...stored lovingly ...admired and held ...wiped down with the finest preserva.....pfffft Ima gonna shoot the danged thing at least once ! It's what its meant to do ...at least once ...lol good point and a tough choice . A Well taken care of shooter is more nostalgic and not worth much less ,at least in my lifetime . I look at all the vintage guns in awe over at AVA because even being used some they've stood the tests of time very well .
It truly would be a rare bird at least here in the states - the .25 cal alone in a Diana is hard to come across as of late . Add in the stock ...whew It's more an investment indeed . I doubt a monetary loss *if any* over a 10 year time frame - a pristine example in 20 years would be true collector investment return , no doubt at all .
The beauty of such a machine is appreciated best in the use of it. That's what I say.
Owning a '61 Jag is pointless unless you live the driving experience. Or a '51 Vincent. Decompression lever, spark advance and all. Ya gotta drive it, ride it, live it or you're just polishing it for the next guy.
I own an AA Prosport. I shoot that thing a lot because that's where I find my appreciation of it. In its purpose. In the firing cycle and in the rifle's inherent accuracy.
I 'd shoot the 52 .25 regularly and then spend an hour cleaning it and oiling it, and back in a nice case, not the gun rack.
I think I read somewhere that the 52 Luxus in .25 is only around 600fps with the light-mid size .25 pellets. Still can't beat that nice wood work and finish. I 've looked at tuner's web sites and they want $300-350 just to sand down your stock and give it a high gloss finish.
I own a Remington 700BDL Special edition (7mm Mag) that has mirror-like gloss, walnut stock, checkering, engraving, etc. One of the best looking bolt-action rifles in my eyes, or in my possession anyway. It even came with swivels from the factory. I bought it in late Fall of '86 after GUN & AMMO rated it the most accurate and #1 gun for that year. They made several variations of the 700, (still do), but the differences at the time were mainly in the type of wood, finish and checkering, etc. The gun shop had to custom order mine since it was top of the line and didn't stock it. I shot the gun about 15 times at the range just enough to sight in the scope and make sure I was hitting bullseyes at 100yds. The Magnum bullets were almost $1 each even in '86 so it was hurting my pocket to keep firing it. I was in my early 20's and pretty poor at the time I then shot it in the woods 3-4 times when I went hunting with it in '87 or '88. I have not fired it since! I take it out once a year, admire it, hold it, hug it, dance with it (not) then oil it and put it back in its nice high-end leather case with lots of special cotton-like padding in it (forget what it's called). I wish I had used the gun more but it's like a canon and can be heard for miles. I also have not gone hunting with firearms in quite a while. One of these days I 'll get out to the range and shoot it and some of my other firearms again. I don't use it and I don't want to sell it. Go figure. I guess I look at them as pieces of art and I get attached to them. I got an offer for $600 last year, but I was reading on line that in a few years it might be worth $1K. Even then with inflation and dollar depreciation, it's worth less than the $430 I paid for it 20+yrs ago. I remember it costing the same or more than some of the Browning & Ruger guns. Anyway sometimes it's not worth selling it because buying a similar one will almost always cost you more. So that's how I would treat the 52 Luxus only I 'd fire it a lot more since it is legal to do so in my back yard.
What's with this Walther "branded" hunter gun? Sounds like a PCP with all that power. Is this made by Diana? Their 1st PCP? Do they mean it has a Walther barrel? Does it exist today under another name? IF they only offer it in Camo, that would be a big mistake.
I 'm in on the 52 Luxus group buy if Umarex gives us a good deal on them. I don't think we need to buy 30 guns. I think we should get pricing from them for 10, 20 & 30 guns and see which one we can manage. I can see us now, when they have one (1) demo 52 Luxus for sale at a discounted price. We will all call them the same day. There probably will be a bidding war..
I asked Ryan about it , it is a springer ! Mossy Oak stock though . Was not on my short list to talk about though . It will be a .22 or .25 so it may fill a void caliber wise
cut/paste Field and Stream review of the .177 version:
Walther Talon Magnum .17 ($250 with 3X–9X scope)
THE LOWDOWN: Brand-new from Walther, this is a spring-powered single-stroke model, and the one I shot was the first to make it to the United States. It’s large and very serious, with a muzzle velocity in .177 of 1250 fps (there will be a .22 and a .25 later on). The black synthetic stock has a recoil pad that is adjustable for length of pull. If you’re looking for an air rifle to hunt with, this one is tough to beat.
HITS: The Talon has excellent open sights, with fiber-optic inserts. It comes with a terrific little scope. The accuracy is good, and the overall quality is very high. It feels like a full-size big-game rifle. Did I mention that it’s powerful?
MISSES: Cocking required considerable effort. Where do you think all those feet per second come from? Also, the trigger pull is long and mushy.
from '06 iirc the last issue (Dec 07 ) actually has another review with a pic ! The words are actually as short and nondescript as the one I posted . I actually don't care much for magazine reviews because most mince words and are *obviously* recieveing payment for getting teeny tiny groups and kind words . Internet junkies give a much "fairer" real world review - who's money is on the line when *I* buy a good or junk gun ? <---that there is my take - no other opinions are represented .
Harry, the gun modeled after the rifle fired by White feather in Viet Nam has to be a real treasure. White feather lived not far from me here in Virginia Beach. Wish I could have paid him a visit before the passed away. I suggest everyone to read his book.
Carlos Hathcock. One of the real American heroes. I didn't know he died! He must 've been pretty young because I remember he was only in his early-mid 20's during the Vietnam war. Someone told me a while back that his hat & feather were on auction and sold for thousands of $$. I didn't put the 2 together that they were auctioning because he passed away. So he lived near you hey? Yeah we don't think about these things until it's too late. There were some things I wanted to tell my dad and do for him before he passed a way a couple of months ago, but I put it off and then it was too late.
