Got to hand it to Umarex they do ship quickly and securely ! Muzzle brake loosely turning on barrel - easy fix . done.
One very Lightly marked "R" on the stock ( so light a damp q-tip rested on the letter will obliterate it from view forever) . another misstamped light "R" near hinge pin on reciever- barely noticeable . The breech "R" can be seen for a mile though! Think I'll fill it with blaze orange paint so it can be seen in the next county too ... Otherwise a beauty... until...... you look on the left side OMFG! people with grappling hooks "Step away from the gun , NOW!" ...I have a little refinish work ahead .
Wiped the gun down ,ran a few patches down the barrel (not bad! pretty clean) loaded a CPhp and knelt down at 10m ...squeeezed (ooooh thats is a sweet trigger ????) *Pop* a little left on windage /spot on elevation . Repeat a second shot *Pop* get up go look LOL 1/16" group!
Now... about sights for this thing ?Pretty durned accurate with none can't wait for some sighting equipment .Suggestions? Make em cheap
w00t haha Great deal Rick! Sometimes the blems are the rifle you dothe most to and end up making the sweetest. So what if the stock ate it from the last owners or whatever. You got a deal and an accurate one at that.
What month/year on your's. I have the Scarlett "R" on my 40 just like yours. Mine came marked Diana, then model 40, that is it. The trigger has 2 screws in front, someone said TO 1, true?? I do not know. Mine is stamped 08 07 which means Aug 2007. No rear sights and has a muzzelbreak. It is really a Model 34 which has to be scoped.
Very good on the barrel droop dept. Install a mount and scope it VS my 34.
I just e-mailed Ed k. the tunemeister on this rifle, expect reply today on a tune from him, have read GOOD reviews about him and he is not about $$$$ like others.
GRT from JM on the 40 with full tune, filling and deburring rough parts.

This is an "old" one 04/02 ??? . It has the two screw trigger . A bit of a twang but not bad and shoots quietly otherwise. Balances very well ! It's a shooter through and through.
Decided to go Really cheap on the scope and mounts - perfectly good ones from the 48 - the 4x32 and dreaded C mounts . (I knew they'd come in handy? some day ) . Been trying to figure out the monkey motion mechanicals of them - still need to adust for windage about two inches right. They are set in tight and don't seem to move around at all . Time will tell .
The stock ding isn't all *that* bad it was just a shock to see one side pristine and the other with a gouge top-to-bottom . It's fixable with a lil TLC.
can't beat that for $130. Is it a .22 or .177? Can you post a pic?
I tried posted pics. Loaded some to Photobucket (I had an account already) but couldn't figure out how to copy & paste as they tell you to do onto a new post. What's the trick? Are there instructions anywhere on this forum?
The gun is apart as I type . I soaked the gouge with a stretched water soaked cotton ball over night and by golly it took most of it right out ! Bad part is it also lifted a good sized area of surface finish too (I'm old and toatally oblivious to non oil finishes I guess ) So in a day or week depending on first results I'll drop a pic in .
I usually open my photobucket account select the pic*make it zoom* in photobucket >right click copy ob pic >paste directly into post. For some reason copying the pic tags has never worked in N54 forums for me ??? So I found a way around that (I'm probably not the first - so no credit to me please?)
Read my post on 40 mods from yesterday. Mine is a .22 cal.
The powerplant of the 34 and 40 models are the same, the cal selection is what changes .177 and .22
I have the dreaded Scarlett letter "R" in my 40 but not in my 48 and they were both DEMOS. My 40 was $131.00 w/shipping, my Crosman Quest 1000X w/scope was $130.00 in .177. I still do not believe I keep this bastard with my Dianas.
I am sending the 40 next week for the tune, reduce the transfer port and JM Spring for $145.00. I talked to Ed K. who is doing the work and he say's I will see a 10 - 20 increase in fps. Not bad since my 40 is at 660 fps, it will probably raise it to 680.
Not quite in the same league as my Model 48 rated at 850 fps but decent power on the 40 at 680. I think after I get it back I will send the 48 for a increase of a little more fps with the same tune as the 40. Heck for that price this is a no brainer.

The stock needs a full refinish ...or maybe some creative stippling ? Thoughts ? Shorty is up and runnin' - no sighter shots yet , but it sure feels *just* right now .
I vote keeper ! Not that there is a choice now that I chopped 6.25" off the barrel/recrowned . I thought it would make it difficult to cock the action - Nope! Balances right under Diana's behind and after following Randy's and Russ's advice for adjusting the trigger My My My ! Oooh Doggie ! Thats niiiice . Thank you Everyone for some fabulous Dianawerk advise ! bear in mind there are a total of 100 pellets through this (by me at least??)everything seems "real" tight yet on this gun so maybe it is still new despite being an '02 gun ?
What is the lenght of your rifle NOW. I assume you cut and shortened the barrel. My 40 is 42.5 in lenght what is yours. If you choped it then it is 36.25 (am I correct)?
And who did the job of cut and re-crown, did you choke it to?
Come on ANSWER?
Wake up?
Still waiting for your explanation.
Because I might do it with my 40.

Just remember I live in Mn , it's snowy blowy and Sunday .I'm a nice guy and don't expect the church goers to walk into church through snow and ice .
OAL sits at an even 40" w/ muzzle brake set 3/16" from actual muzzle. I have a chunk of barrel sitting on the bench that is 6 1/4" . I must have a longer stock ?
Cutting was done by measuring from the breech and wrapping 1 wrap of cellophane tape around barrel where I planned to cut .
I then used the muzzle brake to 1) see what it would look like at 16 down to 10 " . Finally decided on 13" and allowed a little extra in case of a screw up (it happens ) 2) the shooter end of the brake was then used to trace a full circle around the barrel as a "guide" . This way I'd know if I screwed up before cutting fully through .
Miter box and a new 32 lpi hacksaw blade was used to make the cut. About 5 minutes later Shorty was born.
A file was used to remove the saw marks (new or newer sharp file is a good thing) followed by 80-2000 grit sandpaper on 1"x4" metal flat stock to keep the muzzle square.
Muzzle was then recrowned with an electric drill/round headed brass screw/fine lapping compound.
Reblued the now shortened barrel.Replaced the brake allowing a bit of air between muzzle and brake cap.
I've down many barrels (20 or more ) this way and have good luck with this method.
Ima painter today . Still needs a wet sand and possibly anoth clear coat or two , with a follow up full stock top coat with TruOil . Shorty is now a 5 footer instead of a 100 footer !
Good thing I don't have a wife ...looks like I need to clean the over spray off the floor LOL! ... Later me thinks !
Looks good Rick! That 40 is coming along nicely. It looks awesome with that muzzle break. That's a RWS/Diana muzzle break right?
You 're lucky you don't have a wife and you can freely do all this stuff whenenver you want to. You seem to have the right tools and be very skillful. Soon people will be sending you their rifles for cutting and recrowning! You can make some $ on the side maybe?
One thing I don't understand is the black stuff on the wood. Do you plan on changing the look of that part of the forearm? Make it look like a Remington maybe (heheh), or is it going to look like wood (brown) again when you are done with it?
Well that area of the forearm was where the deep gouge is (was) when I recieved the gun . While I did manage to get the gouge to raise to the surface - I also lifted the poly finish. If I had thought before I did the soaking I'd have realized this was no oil finish! You can do the dent/gouge raise easily with oil not so with a poly or synthetic finish. So this "Rem look" is the result of not wanting to sand down/re stain /refinish the entire stock. I live in a tiny 500 sq foot apartment and sanding covers *everything* with dust .This is a stop gap job - until I finally break down and do it proper (outside!) or find a decent M36 stock to make Shorty beautiful . As far as my abilities , they are a far cry from someone that actually does this sort of thing for a living or as supplimental income. It's a labor of love for me - I love to tinker and shoot! I appreciate the props does much for a positive attitude.
My offer is a free ticket to any park in Orlando, (Disney, Sea World, Epcot Center, or whatever) it is 78 degrees in Orlando. Of course airplane and accomodations are not included but if you do 100 of these then you can break even. LOL
You are gifted as a DIY with these ideas on the 40 and other ones I have seen.
Think about this. TTHHIINNKK.

Whooops ! That be Ho! Ho ! Ho ! I appreciate the offer Warren .LOL . I'd get tired arms flying there and get swept up by a street sweeper if I didn't wake up soon eneough.
