Bought my 15 year old son a RWS 34 /.22 for Christmas and it shoots really nice with lots of power.I've heard they are quite dry lube wise from the factory? Should I have it polished and lube tuned? Will be turning him loose on snowshoe hares for now and goghers in the spring. With a BKL-D7 mount and a decent scope he should be in buisness.I picked up a HW80K in .22 for myself a week before.Reliving my youth......................Harold

Good Dad!

Nice choices !

True the Dianas are fairly dry as far as lube.It shouldn't really be a bother and will be fine with routine care and use.  Most people shoot the gun to break them in and they do break in quite nicely . Others send them right out to a tuner without ever having shot the gun at all. It's all in the owners choice category.

I was a tiny bit skeptical of all the raving about lube tuning or sending out to be tuned . For the most part it appears to be true . I lube tuned and installed a Maccarri spring kit in my 48 (about 800 pellets through it )this a.m. and am pretty impressed with the results . A good tuner probably would have wowed my socks off with what they put in with extra attention to details.

Probably not helping much , am I?- I would vote to shoot it in a bit before making a decision .

Way to go Harold. I bet your son was thrilled. I remember the first gun my Dad gave me when I was that age. What a wonderful gift. I know you two will have some great time shooting together. Please let me know how well you like the HW especially compared to the 34.

Good Shooting!

I still have a .177 Hungarian pelletgun I got for Christmas nearly 35 years ago.I put literally millions of rounds through it.Been thinking of getting it rebuilt someday and passing it down to my youngest boy..........fond memories of my youth on the farm..Harold

Hmmmm..... you sure?....

... 'literally millions' would mean at least two million. At 500 pellets/tin, that's

114 tins/year
9.5 tins/month
2.2 tins per week
156 shots per day - each and every day, without missing a day, for 35 YEARS (!!!!!)

Shoot once every three days, and you'd have to go through 468 pellets to just stay on track.

so maybe he shot 1/2 million pellets, who's counting..

I like the math on that though because I was thinking the same thing when I read that.. being that I was an engineering major and was very good in math (I tutored Calculus in College many moons ago).

Let me guess? Your either a Taxman or an accountant? I did my best to wear it out as a kid and it still works? Most of my shooting was farm pest removal, cowbirds, sparrows and starlings.I honestly don't know how many shots it's digested?I mostly used the bulldog brand pellets and don't know if they're still available?I think it cost about $25 from Ukranian Tire in the late 60's so I got my money's worth.....................Harold [who's counting?]
