I shot about 60-70 more JSB's today with the 350 .22 and then I thought let me try the chrony again. Set up the Chrony and then I thought again why not take some pics. Well the batteries had died from taking too many pics of the tree rats I 've taken. Run out to the store and get some AA's. Get back and get right to it. Got slightly higher #'s this time, maybe because the spring is getting used to the 16gr Chech pellets. Shot 8 JSB's through the chrony and then the wife came home at which time I stopped because I don't want to hear her crap Too bad I wasted time going out to get batteries.
I was happy though. Undisputed 23FPE (calculated with 15.9gr). If it weren't for that one 796.x one, the average would have been 802.8fps, but it's all good. Maybe I 'll see more 806.x or even some 810's if I shoot a couple of hundred more I love it when the #'s just keep going up. These are small 25-30Kb JPEGS.

2 of the shots were identical 801.2 so I didn't bother taking up more bandwidth or delaying opening the thread.

Crow Magnum velocities

January 4 2008, 8:20 AM

Shot six 18.2gr Crow Magnums through the Chrony for the first time while the wife ran out to the store for milk

Very small spread as most others: 738.3 - 744.6fps so far (22.4FPE) but will do 1 or 2 larger 10-shot groups when the conditions are better. The results are ok I guess considering they are 42% heavier than CP's and FTS and only ~110fps slower. These have a very tight fit in the breech just like the Kodiaks, maybe tighter. Need to be pushed in with some force.
Anyone else have any Chrony figures with Crow Magnums, if not a 350, maybe 48/52 (or 460)? They worked great on 2 squirrels I got at 27 and 35yds(yes on open sights!). They seem to transfer a lot of energy to the quarry and knock them down immediately and take them humanely. One of them did not penetrate and that particular Crow Magnum knocked the squirrel back off the branch (with a very loud thump) like he got hit with a baseball bat at ~27yds! Those 15ft-lbs remaining energy moved the squirrel several inches back if not a foot! I had never seen anything like it. I guess that's what happens when a large pellet expands and does not penetrate carrying ~15ft-lbs. It could physically move a small quarry (2 lbs max. for a squirrel?) along with it until the energy is expended.

well

there are only 2-3 places that carry them and they 're all the same price. I got the 500 tins from PA - $12.95. It's not worth getting the 250 tins because they 're $10 bucks. Make sure you search by JSB Exact if you go to PA, otherwise you 'll have to scroll several pages down to find the 500ct tins.

Another vendor is AirgunsofArizona.com and they 're the same price. I forget the 3d one I found them at. Like I said very few carry them. $12 for 500 (ie: $6 for 250) is very reasonable I think. Comes out about exactly the same as a 625 box of CP's (if you paid $14.95 for CP's which is the norm).

I thought you had gotten those already. I 'm not going to buy any more CP's unless Crossman gets their act together. I 'm starting to see more and more incosistent CP's that have a loose fit. I got the Chrony out again earlier and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Some where 860fps and some 780! They 're all over the place. I could tell the Chrony was going to read a weird # by the way they felt going into the breech. I went to the Chrony today because for the first time in a very long time I missed my 2nd squirrel ever about 23-24yds out. The CP went over the squirrel and I saw it hit the leaves behind him. I was like wth? I never miss with the CP's.. or with any pellet, except one time a month ago at 37-38yds when I thought I 'd try my luck without a scope and hit in the head (fat chance). When a pellet does not give you consisten velocities and have a 50-80fps spread, they are not going to be accurate.

The JSB exacts are all very uniform. They feel just a little more snug that Superdomes (that have a loose fit), not tight, not too loose either. JSB's QC with the Exact Jumbos is just amazing. All the pellets are identical and shoot great and very consistently through the chrony. The spread is always <10fps! They have become my favorite pellet. I 'd rather use Kodiaks and Crow Magnums for hunting now rather than the unpredictable CP's, because of their ~8fps spread. The CP is kind of at the bottom of my list right now, especially after today and seeing the incosistent results I was getting on the Chrony and on paper after I missed the squirrel with 1 out of 8 pellets or so. I was happy with them earlier but now I came to the hard realization that I got a bumm box just like most people did. Although they are still the hardest hitting pellet with the most penetration, the don't have the consistency of all the other Beeman & RWS pellets in my possession. They shoot weird and get a wacky # on the chrony. Crossman sucks lately. Once this box runs out, that will be it for me with CP's until they get better QC. That's what happens when you have the best selling pellet (most likely) out there. You start getting comfortable and slacking off.
I wouldn't buy any other Crossman pellet either right now. Don't want to chance it. I will stick with the 15.9 JSB's mostly for a while. Got ~900 of them left You won't be disappointed, get them!

I am also going to get some JSB Exact Express 14.3gr on my next 4-tin purchase from PA once the 14.Xgr Superdomes and FTS run out. Not that they are bad, they 're both great pellets getting 850's & 860fps respectively and pretty accurate. I just want to see if the comparable weight smaller Exacts are more accurate, and if they are, and also close to the others' velocity, then they will become my go-to medium weight 14.Xgr pellet but the Jumbos will remain my primary hunting pellet for now and after the heavy-weights Kodiak & Crow Magnum run out.

hek I may

January 4 2008, 6:14 PM

even get a box of the JSB 16gr Predators to try out for hunting and just to fill the 4-tin order next time. There are lot of long-time airgun hunters on hunting forums that swear by them and use them on all their springers when they hunt varmint (not birds).

Is there any reason we shouldn't use the Predator pellet on our Dianas? If that sharp point doesn't make any contact (and it shouldn't) with the rifling inside the barrel, it should be ok right? It seems you get the best of both worlds, excelletn penetration and expansion from its hollow-point design. Anyone using them? How is the accuracy compared to others?

Maybe we should start a new thread?

PA and AoA are on back order

January 4 2008, 6:16 PM

...LOL How would *I* know ? I'm still waiting for my 4 - 500 ct tins, even though "in stock" *and* my card "was authorized" when I ordered ( I complained and that was remedied post haste) .

Precision Airgun purchased all of AoA remaining stock so you may want to check there .

Precision

January 4 2008, 6:28 PM

Airgun Distribution's web site sucks. I could never get any pricing on there and that's because I don't think they sell to public/retail. They are a wholesale distributor.

Why would Precision buy all the JSB pellets back from AoA? I thought everyone gets their JSB pellets from Precision. They are the exclusive importer of JSB's I thought (or so it says on their home page). I 'm a little confused.. Can you clarify Rick?
