Son shot this one out of a tree sleeping[suntanning]one 14.3 gr Crossman HP Premier in the ear.Lights Out!

It looks like the pellet took its head off
Where is it? I can't make it out!
Do porcupines stick their head in their body or shell like a turtle?
I 've never seen one in real life.. Too bad because it's open season for them all year round in NY

Porkies tuck in their heads and roll up in a ball when they feel threatened.Ready to slap anything that gets too close with the tail.The belly is bald [no quills] so only lynx and fishers are artistic enough to flip them or go under the snow and grab them there.The pellet took him in the temple and he dropped like a rock.He's between 20-25lbs or so.Big game for a small cal air gun.Even a 60lb beaver has a skull like an eggshell..............Harold
