Imagine this airgun....January 6 2008 at 4:43 PM | Harvey (no login) from IP address 64.83.206.44 |
| - Imagine how sweet it would be to shoot a series Diana 48 air rifle spitting pellets between 700 and 850 fps. Literally a 10 to 12 fpe sidelever with enough heft to keep it still during the shot cycle... Think about how light the cocking on that beast would become. You could shoot that thing off a rest all blessed day.
And if the rest were on a setup something like a turret? In a pinch I bet a lazy susan would suffice hehe
You could sit in one spot and lazer range find a broad arc without ever moving from your seat. Now combine that with a Centerpoint or Leapers 3-12x44 mildot. The scopes with the lighted reticles in red and green. Maybe get one of the sidewheel models and set your ranges per the mildots. Mmmmmm
Once the rifle is set up get one of those folding shooting bench contraptions and a Caldwell rest. Maybe one of the dedicated designs and find a place with a pest problem where its nice and legal to shoot. Get a little uphill from the quarry and voila, airgun valhalla.
It could be baiting for mice or rats, ground squirrels if you're out Californ-I-A way, or gophers like we have here in the upper midwest. You could be culling the dangerous and non native Starling and English Sparrow invasion near where you live. Heck, it could be sniping army men at thirty yards. Shotgun shells at thirty five. Popsicle sticks any old place. You could put those Shatterblast discs out at the longer ranges and watch them poof when the pellets strike.
Ahem...
See? That's how this airgunitis disease thing manifests. You come up with some airgun you don't have. Then you create all sorts of ways to use it that no other airgun you already have, could possibly meet your needs for.
Beware fellow Dianawerks members... you too could get caught up in the myriad varieties of ways this illness's needs and desires are expressed. It starts with wanting that new airgun. Then before its even broken in you want another. Then someone deep in the disease mentions tunes. Well of course that one in the corner needs it. There's no two ways about it. Next you read about the old classics and suddenly you're learning details you never imagined being interested in. Subtle details between models some factory workers weren't aware of. One day you wake up and you've got five all-too-similar Walther 55s but its okay. The variations are there for you to appreciate. Doesn't matter they all shoot alike, you think you can prove differently. Their accuracy is so finely attended [to] that other than the grain pattern and the stippling or skip line hand checkering, the best shooters would not be able to differentiate them on the ten meter lanes.
These are the words of one who knows his disease. The words of one whose trying to balance a slight but not complete escape from the urge to always get the next big thing. A sidelever would complete the list. But its never the last, is it. Another model is just out of sight, just out of mind for the time being.
Beware my friends, beware the signs of airgunitis....

Actually all the imaginary airgun is, is a Diana 48 with a weaker spring in it. Or you could say its a Diana 48 that's been shot to the point the spring is starting to have less power. Nothing special really.
The only way to get there quicker would be to either own a 48 and shoot nothing but heavy pellets through it or put a soft tune kit in the rifle.
So... have you gotten the 460 yet or not? And what airgun(s?) do you have right now?

34, the 40 (which by the way is going for a MOD with EdK) thanks to krick, also the 48.
My BIG mistake was not to buy the 460 a MONTH ago. The price now is $60 to $80 more.
There is no way the prices will come down, with the $$$ devaluating the Dianas' will not be at the bottom of the chain anymore.
I should of bought $1,500 of Dianas a MONTH AGO and they would be worth 25% more today, any Diana.
Lesson learned.
