What a beautiful day in SW pa. I got home from work 40 minutes before dark and decided to try a few 50 yard groups with 2 magnum springers. I used 22 caliber jsb exacts straight from the can. They are the PE's favorite pellet and the 460M's 2nd favorite for accuracy. My 460M is marginally more accurate with Accupells. Both rifles are shooting at 22 - 23 ft-#'s energy. Both rifles shot mostly sub 1/2 inch, 5 shot 50 yard groups. The PE was consistently a bit more accurate with JSB pellets. However I feel that with its favorite pellet the RWS can hold its own with the most accurate magnum springer i've ever shot (AA PE).
The PE is definitely easier to cock,feels more solid and has a much nicer trigger. The 460M has a smoother , faster shot cycle.
A consistently accurate magnum powered air rifle is a rarity and the 460M can hang with the best.
I look forward to 80 yard targets next, when i get another good day. Good shooting Tom

for the comparison Tom. What's a PE btw?

What kind of scope do you have on the 460 and how many shots through it so far?

PE = Airarms ProElite...

I have one too. Almost thought of trading it for a 460. Kinda glad I didn't. They don't make the PE anymore so they're sort of hard to come by. I've never shot a 460, but sure would like to. Tom, have you done anything to your PE....is it tuned?
Regards, Scott

Hi Harry and Scott, I have a Simmons 44 Mag scope on the 460M and have shot about 800 pellets thru it now. My 460 seems very scope friendly for a magnum springer and i expect any medium or heavy recoil rated scopes will work. I just recieved it for an early xmas present.

I installed a JM PE basic spring kit and bearings in my PE. This combination turned my PE from a rampant scope destroyer to very scope friendly by eliminating scope wrecking vibrations. My OEM PE would consecutively destroy the best scopes (Leupold 6.5 x 20,Bushnell Trophys and Legends)in under 1,000 pellets until i fixed it. JM has a PE seal listed today. I have bought 2 already and an old speckled black Accuglde seal on special over the last year. I have about 8,000 pellets on my OEM seal and the JM kit and i am looking forward to adding a JM lathe turned seal during my next rebuild.
I think the only thing lacking in the 460m is the trigger. I already polished the appropiate sear surfaces (lock plates), but i feel i will need to change to softer sear springs to reduce the trigger weight down to an acceptable and still safe level. My 460M is also the first springer i took apart that had the cocking slot and tube holes deburred from the factory. My 460m's internal parts showed excellent workmanship and it was very easy to work on too. What a nice change in quality control ror RWS.
Wacking a 22 rim fire spinner at 80 yards is a lot of fun with an accurate magnum airgun and a 460 can deliver the goods. Good shooting,Tom

460 vs pe

January 9 2008, 4:53 AM

Just a quick question. You mention that your 460. is harder to cock than the PE. What would you say the "cocking effort is on that gun" The cocking effort of the 460 seems relatively light. Almost comparable to my 34. One remark you made, I find very consistent with the 460. is "The 460M has a smoother , faster shot cycle." A fast shot cycle is one of the most impressive features of this gun.

Thanks
Dave
