35 shots over the chronograph with their Benji Discovery and
share the numbers with us? Also mention how many pumps on
the hand pump it took to refill or top off?
That would have been right at the top of my list of things to
share in a review/report if I had been sent one to test/review.
After all Crosman is advertising how this gun is lower pressure
PCP (2000 psi) and gets great "air milage" so to speak with good
power. One shot per one hand pump and 30-35 "good shots" per
usable fill or to refill/top off time.
So far the reviews/reports I've read kinda stink a bit. What I've
typed above is or can be the 'perfume' to make them either stink
a lot or smell real nice.
They did report 30 - 35 full-power shots and 35 pumps to refill to 2,000 psi. While the string is still not there, I suspect there will be more info. coming soon as Gaylord plans several more installments in his review. In fact, part II is on the Blog now and if I must say, doesn't look too bad! Of course, you won't be happy or sold because there is no 35 count shot string, but I will get you that. I am thinking I will like this gun and that is all that matters to me. It will be interesting to see what I can get at 75, even 100 yards. http://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2008/01/benjamin-discovery-part-2-accuracy.html
"but I'll be needin' that gun, fer squirrels and such."
Bill, I just bought the 850, and am bleeding a little bit from that money going out, but if I have to I will join you and buy the Discovery tommorrow. Just let me know if you need someone on your side. I believe this will be a great gun.
dave good work, when we get the discovery, I think it will be great. delivery date looks like early
March. I think too many guys are just nay sayers. look at the very positive things crosman has
done with the gun.
when it arrives it will answer lots of questions.

The accuracy in the 5-shot groups was certainly not bad, but not much better than some Diana springers TG has tested. I remember the 460 was 0.318" CTC with Premiers and in '06 when he tested the 350 .22 it did very well with Kodiaks at 25yds producing 0.38" CTC if I remember correctly. Keep in mind these are powerful Magnum springers with a kick and everything that comes with a spring gun.
Again I don't see any mention of pumps, shots per fill, or anything like that. Like Harv said this is very important to mention when reviewing any PCP.
Anyway for $245 the Discovery performed well. It didn't surprise me when he said the .22 came broken and had a leak! Again, back to the QC issues with Chinese guns. Something to keep in mind. Will these guns develop a leak 6mos, 1yr down the road? I will wait for a while for others to test them out and give their opinions and then I 'll probably jump on the band wagon. I like to know exactly what I 'm getting. I hate surprises
First shot = 810 Shot 18 = 860 Shot 35 = 810 or 800 or even
790.
I'm being reasonable but I seriously doubt the Benji Discovery
will be in that range, that curve. It sure won't be 23 FPE
each shot for 35 shots like Tom G. stated - that's goofy and
I'm sure he didn't mean to type that. Also I seriously doubt
25 hand pump strokes will top it back off again to 2000 PSI.
Gaylord's Discovery installment #3 is up on the Bolg at Pyramid. No string, but he does go into more general detail about the shot curve. Not 900 fps but about what I was expecting. Peaks out at mid 800's with average weight (not PBA type) ammo. I will take that any day. The JSB 15.9 group looks great. Imagine anything in the low 8's with no recoil and that accuracy. I think we'll be just fine.
Strings will be coming when Chapman publishes his shortly and when Fireball (Canadian) receives his (clears customs). I'm thinking I'll scope mine with a Bushy Sportsman 3-9x32, AO and target turrets. Bang, zip.

the Discovery is starting to look better & better after reading part 3. Part II was good too
I like those initial velocities of 860fps with CP 14.3! But I don't understand why 2mos later it had dropped down to the 820's. I don't think Gaylord explained that. He just said it was expected to settle down to lower velocities. Why? Anyone care to speculate? Is this how PCP's behave? In other reviews of springers, he has said that velocities are expected to rise after the guns are broken-in more. I also like the 700fps with Kodiaks! That's more than my 350 can shoot them out the muzzle! I am now fantasizing about shooting some critters at 40-50yds with CP's and Kodiaks without the recoil and with a nice big scope and still have a total weight of <7lbs
I have always wondered what happens with the dust particles in the air when you pump them into a PCP with a hand pump. I mean there 's all kinds of stuff in the air. Do they build up somewhere inside the compression chamber or around the valve? A dust filter would be a nice feature. Is it everyoen's understanding that Crosman has included the filter in the final design? Me likes very much
"The air/CO2 fill nipple is a steel Foster male quick-disconnect that makes the rifle incredibly easy to connect to air or CO2. Behind that fill nipple, they've installed a fine filter to keep foreign material out of the reservoir."
Which means for compreseed air it is filtered and not for CO2, Crosman calls this a dual fuel gun (compressed and CO2) only the compressed is filtered
but you have to use an adaptor for compressed it comes stock with CO2 (Foster male quick- disconect)) makes it a compress
capish??
warren
and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"
For CO2, you'll need an adapter (different end cap with 1/8 npt fitting or similar I'd think).
PCP guns tend to cool off slightly after they've been broken in. Not much, but as the seals seat and there is more mating surface and springs compress and expand, you generally see a small drop in performance.
