Just over 800 (800-805) fps MV in my 460M and single round hole
5 shot groups at 10 yds. seated/rested in my basement. Just over
700 (700-705) fps MV in my IZH MP513M carbine (12" bbl) and ragged
one holer pea sized 5 shot groups at 10 yds.

Can't 'play' outside as it's rainy, windy, cold and snow coming
soon.

Interesting?

I find it interesting that you own a Russian IZH MP513M carbine. A couple of question. What do you like about this rifle? I know the Rusky's make great barrels, so this gun should be very accurate. Why do you like shorter barrels? How would you compare this rifle to a Diana Model 34?
Thanks

are definitely some fine pellets! I 've been shooting more and more 1 hole shots at 14yds indoors with my 350 and without a scope from a rest or using a bipod. On the chrony the other day they seem to be getting faster too after having shot 200-250 of the 15.9gr Exacts. Got several 810 & 811fps but most are within 800-808fps. I only got one 799 out of 20 shots. Every time I chrony them the velocity gets 1-2fps faster. Could it be the spring or the piston is settling in with these pellets since it's become my predominant pellet?

Also ever since I started shooting more JSB's, the gun now makes a slight sound with the Superdomes it never did before. It's like a spring metal sound when the gun comes to rest after it fires a Superdome (14.5gr). It's not loud but I hear it. It didn't do it with some CP's today or the 50 JSB's I shot. It did it every time with the 10-12 Superdomes I shot. My 350 used to shoot the Superdomes very smoothly, but now this metalic sound has me baffled and a little worried. What is going on? Any ideas? The gun has about 1300 pellets on the meter.

How many shots did you shoot when you noticed the chrony telling you slight and consistant increases in velocity? If the gun is cold the piston may shrink a little and as it warms, expand. If that's the case the rifle should settle to an average velocity after so many "warm up" shots.

Are you talking twang? Or a sound like a part is resting inside the tube of your rifle?

Your spread is pretty tight for that rifle. Very tight actually.

Man I should have kept my 350M - it was pretty sweet PW tuned
and carbined!

Are the Super Domes a easy fit, slightly loose fit, slightly snug,
quite snug? If a bit easy to loose maybe you're getting some piston
slam. That isn't a good thing!

Interesting?

The light weight, accuracy and power surprised, impressed me
right away. The military simple rugged look appealed to me.
The large screw cupped (front) stock to action screws caught
my eye. The external cocking hammer/safety and anti-backlash
or beartrap features at first seemed strange on a break-barrel-
that hammer on any springer! But soon I found myself liking these
features. Trigger on mine wasn't/isn't bad - I'd guess about 3.5
lbs or so but little slop and it breaks clean and consistent,
predicable. This one has no twang - a quick linear jolt with
a sharp report. Sounds off like a Webley Tomahawk .22. Cocking
is a bit stout but actually feels easier with the shorter barrel
and muzzle weight/handle.

I prefer mini-carbines and carbines in rifles. Easier to carry,
handle, maneuver and seems to me like it can improve accuracy -
I've experienced that quite noticably in some springers and to
a lesser degree in other power plants/firearms.

Other than the 460M .22 I've only owned/shot a tuned/carbined
350M .22, a 24c .177, a 24 .22 I cut down to carbine, 2 P5 Mag
.177 pistols. From what I've read and kinda guessing from the
Dianas and other springers I've owned I'd think a 34 would be
a fairly decent rifle - pretty sweet pro tuned. Odd I never
got around to buying one.

The 34

January 17 2008, 4:18 AM

I have the 34 and a tuned 40

the secret is the fps range in these two spingers (700 FPS) with CP's and a pro tune. no twang, piston slam, vibration you get with magnum untuned rifles

the pro tuned 40 has a 48 JM spring, deburred, trigger is 3 lbs, reduced transfer port and lubed and is sweet to shoot. Accurate at 30 yrds

the 34 untuned is a different animal (a mutt dog) compared to the 40 (a Labrador Retriever)while both are in the 700 fps range

I could blinfold you and give you the 34 and 40 to shoot and you would know the difference from one to the other

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"
